A replacement part that works.
BACKGROUND: The old latch ball popped out. So, we needed a replacement. FIT AND FINISH: About the same as other EVERBILT hardware. FEATURES: Package included everything needed for a complete installation. INSTALLATION: This was a replacement, so I just unscrewed the old catch, pulled it out, and screwed the new one in. SUMMARY: Works fine. PROS: Direct fit replacement.

WORKS but know with one you need first
The ball popped out of the door we have into our laundry room. I went ahead and got this one to conveniently fix the door catch. This is where planning is important to save time and effort. Had I taken a minute to check the door, I would have noticed this had a "drive in" ball catch versus this plate installation ball catch. It works, you just need to take the door panel off its hinges and center it in the larger hole and use a chisel to make a relief in the top of the door for the flange to sit flush. Now the finish is preference but know this, the black finish will immediately start to scuff off because it's applied to bright metal finish meaning it's shiny brass underneath so you might be more pleased just having a plated finish that wont wear as badly as black. The ball catch is adjustable up or down to give more action to make up for the gap at the top of the door panel and the bottom white plastic can be sinched into the spring to give more tension against the ball so it is tighter into the catch plate...it works. Just remember, take a minute to check your existing hardware type that needs replaced first before ordering.

Very well made catch - all metal with tough finish
This door catch is made from all brass, including mounting flange and striker plate. It is finished with a very tough matte black coating, which is not scratched by the stainless ball. The spring is strong for a solid 'catching' action. Four black mounting screws are included. We do not have long-term experience, but believe this catch will last you forever - not like some of the plastic units available.

Elegant closets with this catch ball latch. Finish looks great with door hardware
Finish is really high quality. Product worked exactly like I expected and gave a smooth open and close with a satisfying latch mechanism. The ball spring is powerful enough to keep my doors shut, but easy enough for even a child to pull open. Love the finished look and will probably put them in all the closet doors now that I know they are easy to install.

A simple but well manufactured closet door catchment system
A couple years ago I transformed the bifold doors in our Master Bedroom into French Doors by leaving the pairs of bifold doors hinged but attaching one of the sides to the framing of the closet opening. I still can either open one of the bifold pairs, both of them to completely open the closet or only one of the center panels. At the initial installation I had installed a magnetic catch at the center of the top stop frame. Magnetic catches which are two flat metal plates on each of the bifold doors and magnetic strips attached to the stop frame. But the magnetic catches at the top really don't keep the doors aligned straight which was annoying considering the extra care and effort to center the bifold pairs. Out of frustration I looked for a better alterative and found the Everbilt Black Ball Catch. Ball catch closures install on the center inner edges of the two center bifold panels and hold the door firm and completely aligned. They are a much cleaner catch for the doors. The Everbilt black ball catch is made from steel with a matte black finish that appears to be durable. The manufacturing and assembly of the ball catch is really quite good The stainless ball is smooth with no rough area and is firmly secured in the ball housing and attached to the nail plate. I don't expect this ball assembly to come loose like a previous ball catch I had installed. The catch plate is equally well made with a precise indentation to capture the ball as the door is closed and deep enough to keep the ball in position. It may sound like overkill but the precision of the fit between the ball and the catch plate is the difference between a snug capture of the ball that is easy to open detaching the two units. Installation screws are included along with straight forward clear installation instrucitions. I'm glad I chose the Everbilt black ball catch and can recommend it.

Simple and clever design
These ball catches are great for securing doors in the closed position when security is not a concern and maybe you would prefer not to have a doorknob on the door. I will use it on a linen closet door in the bathroom and it will allow me to use a pull that matches the existing hardware in the room. The finish is nicely done and matching screws are included. I really like that the brass cylinder with the spring loaded ball is easily adjustable, it's threaded so you can simply turn it either direction so that it catches in the strike plate.

Fit-for-purpose ball catch
This is pretty much a standard import ball catch. Nothing fancy, although the black finish is nice for some applications. Screws included along with a matching striker plate. I've previously used a similar Everbilt product in another finish and they definitely work well for large cabinet doors, closet doors, utility closets, etc. It will definitely do the job in a cost-conscious application.

Solution that works
I just got in my Everbuilt ball catch. I ordered this in black because all of my other hardware is black. I was having problems with my hall closet not staying shut. The previous set up was a magnet. It wasn’t positive enough to hold the door and the mount would get pushed in and misaligned. The ball catch has a spring loaded ball that depresses as you close the door into the catch. The catch has a depression that holds well. Great solution.

Holds Door in Place
Everbilt Ball Catch. Made of steel with a brass backing on the ball side of the catch. Available in multiple colors. When in use, the ball rests in the slot of the latch to hold the door in place. Then when you open the door, the ball depresses allowing the door to open. When using on a door, the catch is installed on the edge of the door and corresponding jam. I'll use mine on a clothes dryer rack I'm building. So you can push the rack up and out of the way and then easily bring it down.

Bronze finish scratched immediately
Bronze finish scratched immediately… I will probably just spray paint my old latch and have better results that way. At least the ball function works fine. I was happy that they are adjustable.

    Poor finish quality
Functionally these are fine. Easy to install and they work. The finish on the other hand is terrible. This isn’t close to satin finish. The catch plate was clearly a mirror finish chrome look and it appears as if they ran a wire wheel over it to rough it up. It wouldn’t be as noticeable if the texture was consistent but they missed spots on all of them.

      Garbage Quality - Not Recommended
The 40 year old hardware I removed (although tarnished) was much better quality than this. The bronze finish wears off the strike plate the first time the ball touches it.

        Love adjustable ball height
Adding another picture to show the adjustable height of the ball

Good but not all pieces matching
I love that I can move the ball catch up or down to allow for different door heights. This is perfect. However I had to buy a lot of these for doors in my home and some packages had a different top piece. One package shows the square edges (matches product picture) and another had rounded edges. They are similar but completely different pieces. Also, some packages were not sealed well and had opened and lost screws. Luckily I was replaced existing latches so I was able to re-use the old screws.

Easy to install, interesting design but poor quality
I purchased the adjustable ball catch to replace the old ones from few closet doors that were not closing properly anymore. I struggled a bit to remove old ones at first, I put the new one into place but when I used for the first time the ball popped out from the casing and there was no way around fixing it other that returning it to Home Depot. I don't recommend the product. Unfortunately there aren't many options in the store. Eventually return it and buy one that seem ok.

This replaced another ball latch that broke after 20 years. The ball in the new latch is too small to work effectively. I am going to try a magnetic latch instead.
