Wood quality was very poor compared to similar products I’ve used recently. Lot of holes, I dentions, and generally rough spots in the wood. I use these to build custom shuffleboard tables and this was worst quality I’ve used - typically get a similar product, different wood from Lowe’s.

One side should be clear and very nice alder. The other we allow for knots to keep the price down. Sorry this did not live up to expectations.

Vendor tells you to seal the counter immediately, but that is impossible if you have to cut to size and openings for a sink and a cooktop and then glue together whatever you need to glue. By the time I finished it was twisted, crowned at both ends and also begun splitting.Very disappointing.

Ben-Sorry for all the rush. Let me revisit the instructions. A couple years ago I noted to finish the top in 3-4 days, but a lot of people stretched that into 1-2 weeks. I re-wrote the instructions saying 12-24 hrs., hoping to add emphasis on the treating of unfinished wood. IN all honesty if you cut your sink out and then grab a coffee, then stain the block.

This butcher block countertop looks very nice and is well built. Alder is a fairly soft hardwood, so it dents more easily than expected. Three coats of polyurethane helps a little.

For the price, this was a good deal. There were two spots where there were small holes from the manufacturer, but we put them on the bottom and it worked well. We used it to make a wrap around prep surface in an alcove by cutting it in half, then shaping with degree cuts. It turned out very nice!

Send that back! We have a tight QC process but sometimes we make mistakes. These large blocks also ship in LTL truckloads to your house or store...I guess the damage was in shipping.
