This is a good product for smaller cats (less than 12 pounds). You need to follow the directions as to the distance from the floor to make it easy for the animal to pass through. I installed it in a door with recessed panels and needed to make spacers to compensate for the difference between the thickness of the door and the panels when the access door is to be installed overlapping both the door frame and the inset panels.

GREAT PRODUCT. I HAVE A SMALL ONE FOR MY CAT AND DOGS, IT LEADS IN THE HOUSE, AND LARGER ONE ON AN OUT BUILDING FOR MY DOGS. THIS WAY THEY CAN GET OUT OF THE RAIN ETC. WHEN I PUT THEM IN THE FENCED IN YARD. THIS DOOR KEEPS ME FROM GOING TO THE DOOR SO OFTEN, SO I LOVE IT. VERY EASY TO INSTALL.

Great product. I installed 2 in less than an hour. You will have to clean the plastic every once in a while but that is normal. When the cats fly through the door it makes a very distinct sound but you get used to it. Overall I am very pleased with the ease of installation and quality. We like that it has all the options for the door to lock, swing in only, swing out only, or swing both ways. It helps when trying to keep the rascals in a specific room.

Looks very nice installed but plastic parts to not inspire confidence that it will last long. Time to read instructions/cut the wall/install the parts: 15 min. Time to thread the 4 screws from front to outside plate/angle the screws blindly so they will aim directly into the middle of the threaded sleeve: 1+ hr. Time to adjust the tension on the screws so the flap swings freely yet in rain will enter: 30 min. I ended up taping the joint because it does not seal, and also outside lip to the wall to weather-seal.

        Works Perfectly!
We had this Chubby Cat Door installed in our kitchen window. Since we wanted to be able to shut the window in winter, our carpenter had to install the door in a wooden box but it was easily done and works perfectly! The door opens out into the enclosed walkways and the Catio. In the morning, I have 3-4 cats lined up to go outside - TRAFFIC JAM--- it is wonderful that they can safely explore and enjoy the outdoors at their leisure. The door opens easily with a nudge of their nose, it swings back to the closed position automatically and the cats LOVE LOVE LOVE being able to go outside. I would highly recommend this product. The photos show our Mr. Vin Diesel who was the first to master the Chubby Cat Door - it took him about 15 seconds! He was out before we could clean up the sawdust or paint it!

        Easy Installation
I installed this on an interior door that leads to my basement, where the cat's food and litter box are kept. Installation was very quick and easy. It took the better part of an afternoon to get my cat used to using the door, but she's been happily using it ever since. The reason I took off a star is that it's a bit *too* easy for the cat to use: she's able to push the lock open and closed and has accidentally locked the door several times. I wound up having to tape the lock into the "open" position so that she wouldn't keep locking herself out.

        Love my new cat door!
I love my new cat door. It is just the right size for my 3 cats that live in our barn. We installed it in metal panel wall. We had to cut 2 pieces of small wood (we used a builders stake cut 2 small pieces) and put on the top and bottom of the door before installation to take up the space since the metal is so thin. This worked perfect. The door swings great and the cats are going in and out of the barn now instead of having to keep the big door opened partially all the time. Thanks!

Okay product. Not a good pet door if this is into your main living area.
okay. door opens when the wind blows hard and then stays open. Acceptable for the cost.

Light enough for old cats and tiny kittens
Installs easy and works great for any INSIDE door. The price for this does not reflect outside-door usage. It's not weather-proof enough for entry/exit into main house. I use this for the basement door where, if I left the door open, all my cool a/c air will sink to the lower level and basement areas. This way, the cats can go up/down as they please. This unit has a lock, in-only and out-only options as well. If your cat doesn't take to it or has difficulty, remove the magnet until the door is used regularly, then replace it (if needed).

cat was a kitty, kitty is a cat...small door was small for small kitty...big door is for BIG CAT! Works `purr'fect!!!!
I installed the pet door [for a frame customized by my own design and manufacture to fit my frame] in a patio slider. I am sure the factory enclosed instructions to install in any other door were much easier and adequate. My budget did not include a fancy aluminum custom pet door frame.

        Works great.
The size is perfect for our fat cats and they appreciate the size. It seals great yet is easy for them to open. Looks great.

Good value but weather stripping could be snugger around edges
Easy to install and a good value. Weather stripping around edge of flap could have a better tighter fit. Slight draft detectable on cold windy days but not a big problem. Clear see through plastic flap gives pets confidence when entering or exiting.

        Best Feature: 4 Way Lock!
I have a few cat doors at my house. Previous owners installed a cat door in a patio door that left exposed foam fill in the door center. Also, cats broke the lock on the first cat door because it could be unlocked from both sides. They figured it out, together. This works for cat safety and my budget. The Cat Flap's four way lock can only be unlocked on one side, the inside. The door is used to prevent all the cats from coming inside the house with one particular door. Only their tiny mother, a former stray, uses it. For mom I use all four locks: Open, Locked, In Only and Out Only. Installation was complicated for me only because the previous cat door was installed with one side cut out lower than the other. Ideal Door's Cat Flap requires both sides meet to place the screws in holes that secure it through the metal house door's center. The Cat Flap comes with a useful template. I used a jigsaw with a metal blade to recut the house door. My metal door was slightly thicker than the Ideal plastic cat door and I located longer screws easily joining the two sides. This was not installed in a door that is outside our house. I would not use it for that purpose, particularly in a location that had seasonal windy storms. This new Cat Flap covered insulation inside the door. That was the change I needed! Pictured before final cleanup! Plastic door materials look cheap, but for the price it's feature rich with a four way lock and a through the door installation.

Great Product, easy install after hole is cut in door. Last one lasted 8 years until plastic flap got too dirty and bought a new one. Fits my Cat & 27 lb Fench Bull Dog.

Perfect for an interior door. My cat loves going from the garage back into the house on her own.

Addition of weather stripping along the top edge of window to cover small space created by hinge (between window & frame) to block cold air but still allow the window to swing in/out would be a very nice upgrade. & would rate 5 stars!

In general it works great and is easy to install once you get the hole cut out of your door. However, if you have it locked, some cats can pester the flap so much that they can get the flap to open despite it being locked.

Needs a Magnet at Bottom to ensure it shuts properly
The wind blows it open and it does not shut. It needs a magnet at the bottom to ensure it shuts.

Flap doesn't close all the way
The quality of the cat door seemed great when I took it out of the box and installed it. My cats used it right away. However, after they go through it (either direction), the flap consistently stays open 1" to 2" and lets cold air flow into the room. No amount of fiddling with it made any difference. I had a smaller door from another manufacturer for 6 years and never had an issue with it closing all the way...I'm switching back to them.
