GREAT STUFF Gaps and Cracks is a polyurethane-based insulating foam sealant that fills, air-seals and insulates small gaps (up to 1 in.) inside or out. But you probably guessed as much from the name. What you might not have guessed is how easy it is to use (thanks to the straw applicator) or how it expands to take the shape of cracks and voids form a durable, airtight and water-resistant bond that eliminates unwanted airflow and helps reduce condensation.

Hello Paul, The theoretical yields of one-component foams is measured in lineal feet of a 3/8" - 1/2" diameter bead. The 12 oz. can of Great Stuff™ has about 250 lineal feet (a total of about 0.2-0.4 cubic feet). The 20 oz can has about 420 feet (a total of about 0.3-0.6 cubic feet).
If Great Stuff™ Insulating Foam Sealant is applied as per manufacturer’s directions, there should be no compatibility issues. Please note that this product is an air sealant, not a water sealant. The product is water resistant, but it is not water proof.
06APR2026 MT1: The Great Stuff™ Gaps and Cracks will expand approximately 100%, a 1/2" bead will expand to approximately 1". Yield and expansion are dependent on temperature and available moisture in the air.
Hello AAAbob, The Great Stuff™ products are water resistant but not waterproof.
Hello RichInSoquel, Great Stuff™ Insulating Foam Sealant products can be used outdoors. However, the products are very sensitive to UV light. Exposure to UV light, even indirect sunlight, will cause the foam to darken to an orange or reddish-brown color in a matter of days or weeks. Constant exposure to direct sunlight will eventually cause the foam to break down and crumble apart. If used outdoors, the foam must be painted or coated with a UV-resistant coating.
Hello Mary, The Great Stuff products are water resistant but not waterproof. As for the use of Gaps and Cracks around your window a better product would be the Great Stuff™ Window and Door. It is designed to allow for the expansion and contraction of your windows throughout the year.
Hello Tommy, I'm not sure of the application, but Great Stuff™ products will stick to just about everything.
