Questions & Answers

How many cubic feet does it fill?
ByApr 12, 2026
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Hello Paul, The theoretical yields of one-component foams is measured in lineal feet of a 3/8" - 1/2" diameter bead.  The 12 oz. can of Great Stuff™ has about 250 lineal feet (a total of about 0.2-0.4 cubic feet).  The 20 oz can has about 420 feet (a total of about 0.3-0.6 cubic feet).

          Answer This Question

Hello RichInSoquel, Great Stuff™ Insulating Foam Sealant products can be used outdoors. However, the products are very sensitive to UV light. Exposure to UV light, even indirect sunlight, will cause the foam to darken to an orange or reddish-brown color in a matter of days or weeks. Constant exposure to direct sunlight will eventually cause the foam to break down and crumble apart. If used outdoors, the foam must be painted or coated with a UV-resistant coating.

            Answer This Question

Hello Mary, The Great Stuff products are water resistant but not waterproof. As for the use of Gaps and Cracks around your window a better product would be the Great Stuff™ Window and Door. It is designed to allow for the expansion and contraction of your windows throughout the year.

The great stuff foam filler was a great choice for my project. Priced low for the small space I needed to cover. Always recommend this store specifically for my guy Jorge I think, he's new, but understood my needs.

Great Stuff Gaps & Cracks really lives up to its name. I’ve been using it to fill gaps around a foam core insulation for the walls of my garage here in Wyoming. I’d rate it at 1” + or - so far as what it will actually fill. It’s extremely versatile. Sets up in a reasonable amount of time - even between 40 and 50 degrees F. Once cured, it has a nice density that allows it to be trimmed and will not loose its form or fragment if accidentally bumped into. For comparison, I’ve also used a couple cans of the equivalent GE product - don’t waste your time or money. GE usually makes quality stuff but it is 2nd Tier compared to Great Stuff. GE’s product is more unpredictable in application, messier, and does not dry to as dense and uniform of a foam. Maybe it insulates a small amount better, but I doubt it. It’s also more difficult to trim and shaped once it has expanded and cured - grainy and flakey. The Great Stuff foam, while not strictly an adhesive, also does a good job of binding to various surfaces. In my case, that includes a lot of wood. Perfect. Bonus points for additional sound dampening - perhaps the final density of the cured product contributes to that. Will definitely buy this over comparable products given the opportunity again. Highly recommend!

Product works as expected. Sets tacky in just a few minutes, expands as advertised. There is not as much inside each can as one might guess, so the value pack works out for going around basement cracks. Easy to screw on the applicator, and it can be folded for a second use.

Great at what it what I use it for, filling in gaps and holes before covering and painting. Only gripe would be that it always slowly oozes out foam, then dries on itself, making it almost a single use item. Easy way to fix this is some WD40 at the top and the bottle and down the tub so you can use it more than once.

Used it to make a fire pit halloween decoration. Very simple - just spray foam and orange (amber) christmas string lights. Layer of foam, lights, more foam and sticks and twigs for realism. Hit it with some black spray paint and enjoy.
