Always a good idea before testing it on a unknown circuit to test it on a known live circuit before hand.

I bought one from Home Depot many years ago. It would not work the other day. Tonight, I tried to change the batteries. They are so old they had been leaking, with white chemicals visible in the clear plastic in the nose. This is a very small device, so getting the batteries out was a challenge. I needed to make a removal tool with a large paperclip. All for nothing as there is too much corrosion. Annoying that failing to change the batteries means I'll have to buy one again.

Works great at detecting both 24V and line voltage. I haven't tried through walls, but works at plugs and wires.

I have a Fluke that doesn't detect until 90v and while that's hypothetically perfect for my needs I find that the probe has to be right on the hot line to register. The low-voltage function of this tester means I get an indication that there is power without having to be right on the wire.

These tools are a must when doing small electrical projects around the house. I bought Klein because it is the most reliable brand when it comes to electricity testing. So far they have worked flawlessly.

Easy to use. Had to change out a light switch in the bathroom and this assured me there was no power going to it. All I had to do was hold it close to the wires. No touching at all. Completely safe.

Product works as advertised. This is an inexpensive way to test current in wires and proper plug wiring

purchased because basic non-contact version was out-of-stock. Works but temperamental. The basic unit I find more reliable/usefull at lower cost.

Great value, they take the guess work out of it. Well worth the purchase.
