      this is the third lock I'm ordering over the past 5 yrs. the first one was trashed when I washed the door. the second during a rainstorm. i love everything about the lock save this defect, if kwikset could find a way to make the electronics more water resistant, it would rate 5 stars

          Purchased this one 2 times and they both broke the same way within 2 years. When I called customer care to find out some information on why 2 of these products would break the same way, the only thing he said was this model has been discontinued a while ago. I then asked why was it discontinued? Being that it's still being sold in stores. If there is a defect or problem with it why is it still being sold in the stores for someone else to buy and have problems with? He did not give me an answer. He just repeated himself, saying "the product is outside of the warranty. However, there is a lifetime warranty on the appearance". Well, I guess for them it's more important that the product looks good while it's in the trash instead of it working for it's intended use. I will NOT purchase this one for a 3rd time. I will hopefully find success with another brand that will actually work longer than 2 years.

            Was replacing a simple lever handle and the hole wasn’t large enough for a simple swap out. It fit fine on the door and the price wasn’t as much as the Schlage. Problem is I should have gone with the Schlage. The battery on the Kwikset lasted less than a month of use. Compared to my Schlage Z wave versions, their batteries last at least 6 months.

To improve battery life, we recommend checking your door alignment, and please use name-brand batteries, avoiding lithium and rechargeable batteries. The SmartCode 912 fits on a door that is between 1-3/8” and 1-3/4” thick, and the latch fits a backset of either 2-3/8" or 2-3/4". For the connectivity, the lock is compatible with Z-Wave hubs, for example, the SmartThings hub, Wink, Honeywell, ADT Alarm, Vera, Vivint, or Ring Alarm System.               Worked OK for 2 yrs. Now batteries deplete fast
              Bought this Z-Wave three years ago. Worked well until this past year. The batteries now deplete within a month - and getting worse. Just had the batteries show 1% on Z-Wave controller. Changed the batteries, still 1%. Changed the batteries again, still 1%, Changed again. still no battery improvement.

                The lock would intermittently fail to unlock. I would have to go the the main door and enter using the keypad. It would try to unlock but it sounded like something was not catching inside. Also it would not stay connected to the WIFI. I connected it on numerous occasions and it would be fine for awhile and then it would lose the signal.

                Hello Penny,
                Thank you for sharing your feedback. Please follow these steps to fix what you’re experiencing: check the door alignment, that the door jamb hole is at least 1 inch deep to prevent jamming, and perform the door handing step below:
                1. Open the door and extend latch to the locked position.
                2. Remove the battery pack.
                3. Press and HOLD the Program button while reinserting the battery pack. Release button once the battery pack is installed. The status LED will flash red and green.
                4. Press the Program button once more.
                5. The latch bolt will retract about halfway in and then extend to learn the orientation of the door.
