So far the Moen valve has been great. Easy to get up and running. Easy to operate. An issue with email notifications. Nice information about consumption. Not sure if it’s going to figure out what device in the house is running but time will tell. It found a drip after installing.

Difficult to pair up. No step-by-step instructions in the box. Easy to install in water line using standard fittings, including spacer in case removal of the unit is needed. Just installed, so no history of life or reliability yet. Disappointed to see it is made in China, so concerned about longevity as it is quite expensive, and the standard warranty is only one year. If you have to hire a licensed plumber to install it, I don’t see the cost being offset by insurance savings in less than five years. Only buy it to protect your property, not just to save on insurance.

Worst home product ever!
The Moen Flo may work with household water systems that do not contain a water softener which regenerates/flushes between 1-3am, but if you have a water softener then you can forget about it. Even when I max out the “manual override” settings (not to mention telling it I have a water softener) it will close the shutoff valve rendering my water softener useless… Salt water taste and foam for the next two days.

    Very Easy to Install
    Got a new one off of auction site for $54. Had broken plastic connector. A pair of connectors was $8 from Moen. Installed myself with a pair of solder on connectors. Really easy to install. To solder well, drain all water from pipe, cut pipe with pipe cutter, so it is even. Debur edges inside and out. Polish outside ends of pipe and inside of fittings with steel wool, fine sandpaper or wire brush. Use flux for potable water. Heat with torch until solder melts to pipe on side away from torch flame, then run solder around pipe. Tape threads with 3 layers of Teflon tape and assemble, using silicone grease on O-rings. App on phone, plug in and off you go. New turbine wheels seem to have covered magnets to avoid corrosion or rust and Moen has a replacement kit available for $8. Keep the spacer tube that comes with the kit near where you installed the Flo. If the Flo fails, shutting off the water, you can remove it and replace it with the spacer, in an emergency, restoring your water until you can fix the Flo. In this way, there is no real need for a bypass.

      Stopped working after one year
      New Lennar home's device failed in a year, replaced by Moen under warranty. Replacement stopped after another year. Out of warranty, faced costs and hiring a plumber. Flo by Moen blamed an irreparable firmware glitch, pushing an $800 replacement cost. Given the investment, installation needs, and reliability issues, recommending this product is challenging. Encouraging the company to enhance the overall customer experience is crucial.

        This device will only be tested when a problem develops. It was installed December 12th and after some problems gettit it connected to my wifi it has performed as expected. I had to buy a wifi extender to make the connection possible. We tried to use it before the wifi connection and I ended up with the water cutting off while I was in the shower. If you want a better evaluation please ask for in 6 months or so.

        Expensive nonfunctional piece of plastic
        Had this professionally installed. Continually goes 'offline' and not online until I spend time resetting the unit, reconnecting to the FLO wifi network, attempting to get it to connect to the house router. My router is new, close to the FLO. One person in the house, no gaming, streaming. FLO customer support is worthless - are the lights on ? press the reset switch. unplug the FLO. try to connect to the FLO network, etc. The unit has a weak WiFi chipset/software and I don't have this issue with other outside WiFi devices. Purchased WiFi extender and FLO STILL goes offline. Having the unit not 100% functional means I have little peace of mind when away from home and traveling.

          The Flo by Moen sucks. It will not stay connected to the network. And it won’t reconnect without going through the entire restart procedure. DO NOT BUY IT. $600 waste with 2 points of failure.

            Fails just after warrantee expires
            I bought two of these, upon advice from my plumber. One to read irrigation water, and the other for domestic water -- so they could be read separately. However, Moen adds the flows up together, so they could not be read separately. That was the first problem. Then the first unit failed just after the warantee expired, then the second one failed two months later. Total waste of money. I expected these to be repairable and have parts availability, but no.
