Dubious
I live in Virginia zip code 22207. Soil has a lot of clay. Bag shows germination tested 02/20/24. I started planting beginning of April and again middle of April. I watered morning and evening. I’m dubious that the seed is of any use in over seeding. I see seeds still laying on the ground. The only obvious sprouting is where the seed fell into an aeration hole. So I think when the instructions say rake it in, it is really means the seed HAS TO BE BURIED.

    Its all weeds
My lawn now is the worst looking lawn in the neighborhood. Do not but this product. It was basically a bag full of Cudweed. Pictures attached. I complained and they will not stand by their product at all except telling me to buy another one of their products to kill the weeds. They told me to plant it in the Fall 45 days before frost. IT DOES OT SAY THAT ON THE BAG. Satisfaction Guaranteed from them is a joke. I planted in fall and this spring I have nothing but weed where the seed was.

      Love this this ky31 seed
I see the comments saying they will never buy this need or does not grow. Let me say this if you don't know what you are doing no seed will grow. I have been using this particular, same seed for years and never have a problem. Same name brand Pennington for a little over ten years in many yards. IT WORKS. You just have to Air raid your grass properly water three times a day each time 10 minutes and that bad boy will grow in approximately 14 days.

Will not work in Texas heat
I followed directions exactly but not one blade of grass came up. I’m guessing it’s just too hot in the DFW metroplex this time of year to get this to grow. I just wish Home Depot wasn’t selling this stuff at the beginning of summer if it’s a product that’s not going to grow in our heat. I guess I should’ve researched this better instead of assuming they wouldn’t be selling it if it wasn’t a product for our area. Maybe once it cools off it’ll germinate but I wasted a lot of money, time & water!

          Fast Growing
Addressing the bad reviews: You have to water it. I have a area the sprinklers did not hit and the seed is laying there. Where it did hit, I have grass in seven days showing.

            I purchsed over the weekend
I wanted to try something different because my lawn got hammered this summer with the extreme heat. I read online that this grass is very high heat tolerant which is why I bought it, originally I wanted to purchase Kentucky bluegrass which I will buy maybe next year. It's September 14th, did a hard rake and used a detacher prior to laying down the seed on Monday. We had rain on Tues pretty much all day, today and the rest of the week is going to be sunny high 70's. Looking forward to a nice grass in the spring. Stay tuned

This seed was used with another combined and started coming up within days of planting. Really happy with the lawn. It's super green and lush.

                Pennington Destroyed My Lawn
Orchard grass only appears where I spread the Pennington grass seed. It is too early in the season for crabgrass (which is what this stuff resembles). I have identified the weed in my lawn as orchard grass.

                    Defeated by Pennington
I overseeded using the 40# bag. Now everywhere I planted it, this horrible, shaggy, fast growing, wide bladed monster grows. It looks terrible. I had a lawn expert look at it, and he recommended killing the lawn with glysophate herbicide and starting over. The good news is that the muddy areas in my lawn have been replace by something green. (Planted spring 2021)

Hello! Our packaging has changed. It will still say 'Pennington Kentucky 31 Tall Fescue'. They come in 5lb, 10lb, 20lb, 40lb and 50lb weights.
Blown away at the growth rate!
Tilled the entire yard, lawn starter, Pennington Kentucky 31, and straw. THREE DAYS later I see grass popping up. It's been almost a week and I've got nearly an entirely green yard. Who says you can't grow grass in the summer!?

Fast germinating and tough grass. I avoided Kentucky 31 for years because the blades are thicker than I would like but planted some this fall in areas that die every year during heat and drought. I do have it growing in some areas of the yard already and it is near indestructible. I put the seeds down on a Monday and covered them with a light layer of wet top soil. We had a 2 day rain event that Thurs/Fri and on Saturday morning the seeds had germinated. Germination was near 100%. I kept the seedlings moist through the first two mowings. This grass loves sun but will also tolerate some shade. It is durable for foot traffic and somewhat durable with pets. The bag I ordered in September was tested in June, so very new. The bag is 45% K31 and the rest is other matter such as the Penkoted coating which is a propriety way of coating the seeds to protect them from fungus and ensure good germination.

                            Weeds, not recommended
Trust the bad reviews. I’ve not had one weed in my yard all year. I aerated and seeded with this and like others have said I am now over run with clover and other weeds. Do not use this product. If there were zero stars I would award that.

                              Sprouted in 5 Days!
I seeded using Pennington on a Monday with lawn soil and by Saturday we already had baby grass. Excited to see how the lawn progresses. I dont think everyone will have these same results because it’s mid-September 2020 and we had a week of rain. Also i used the entire 40 lb bag on a postage stamp yard less than 200 sqft. First i pull weeds and thatch, then till, seed, till, water, soil, rake, seed, rake, soil, seed and water. Bare spots on my lawn are lush and green after just one week!

My yard was totally turned to hard clay packed dirt after two years of dog activity. I now have a full yard of bright green grass. Now must find a good solution to keep the dogs on their side of the fence.

                                Wonderful fast growing grass.
Reseeded the front lawn. It took off so well. Will have to reseed the upper part due to heavy down pours. This help my erosion problem also.

We needed a winter grass to secure dirt work
We did a bunch of dirt work in our backyard for drainage problems. It destroyed the grass. We needed to secure the dirt from new rains. This seed grew faster than expected, even though a cold front came through and it was below 60°. It is now very thick and lush in January

I purchased this in early spring and put it down by following the instructions. I used it as both overseeding in some areas and new lawn in other. I used a lawn rake to rough up the soil prior to putting it down and again after. I consistently watered the seed. Here we are 5 weeks later and nothing.
