All three of the stringer split, one is really bad that I had to glue it together and put metal plate to keep it together.

I purchased these pre-cut stair stringers. They are garbage made with poor qaulity lumber. I should have bought my own wood and taken the time to cut the stringers myself.

This product made rebuilding our deck steps easy and look great.

I bought 11 of these only to discover that the dimensions of each one were different. Maybe 5 of 11 were making contact with the steps carrying load. Besides being impossible to build straight stairs they are unsafe.

Why do all 3 stringers not match? Are they not supposed to be identicle? I waited 2 weeks for these and at best i think i can use 2? Who cut these things a blind monkey? Terrible!

These pine stringers saved me a lot of time and effort when I needed to rebuild my entire porch. It is difficult to find a 8-step stringer. The stringers I received were in excellent shape and Home Depot even shipped them for free. I mounted the stringers using concealed stringer hangers for a strong and safe connection. Some reviews mention that these stringers are splitting, but I have had them outside for over 5 months with no excessive splits or cracks, known as checks. I let the stringers dry outside for about 4 months before applying a weather seal stain. These stringers are a real time saver for longer stair runs.

It was exactly what I needed and worked great

Great for those who don't want to mess with calculating rise and run. Convenient. Even as a template to cut your own. One of the stringers was trying to split. Had to pre drill and screw it. Otherwise dimensions were consistent.

I had to order this online since it wasnt available in stores (which is why I gave it 4 stars). It was delivered within a reasonable amount of time and was perfect to build stairs for our new deck.

Executive Summary: Not quality, frustrating, but will do if you're up for a challenge to mending wood and doing some math. The pieces arrived in two generally beat up boxes (delivery folks weren't pleased to drop it off). I ordered 4, one of which was not like the others but could generally work around it. A couple of treads were 1/2" deeper than others but generally usable. A couple of them looked like they ran unevenly through a table saw. About 1/16" was cut into a side. Again, not a deal breaker but certainly not quality. There was an uneven edge to the bottom of the stringer. Again, nothing that can't be worked around if you're up to the challenge. I then tried to attach the hangers to them and wound up splitting the wood straight through knocking a riser off. That's because the grains are parallel to the treads which, oddly enough, is where the nails drive into. So, a little pre-drilling before nailing on others and some mending tiles on the knocked off bits, and it's solid again. So, if you're wondering why I didn't return them. Boxes were too beat up to re-use, I don't have a car to transport, and, before this experience I imagined this is always how it goes. Now I've learned better: When in doubt, return it. Thanks for the learning experience.

Be absolutely sure to check local building codes before buying any stingers from HD. These stringers are made from 2X10s resulting in not enough wood between the back of the stringer and the tread/riser joint. They need to be made from 2X12's. I have to completely rebuild my stairs to pass inspection now. A huge loss of time and money as HD won't give the dimension of this most critical area. See attached photo. HD's stringers are about 4 1/2" in this area.

I needed 7-step stringers for my new deck, so I had to buy the 8-step and cut one off. That's the only issue I had with these stringers. They were straight with only a couple small knots. They went up easily, taking deck screws well without predrilling and there was no splitting. They took the deck stain well and should last many years.

Stingers made from good quality prime lumber, good clean cuts, very well packaged. Arrived ahead of promised delivery date and I saved about $75 from local lumber yard price. The steps are sturdy and strong and should last for many many years.

I've never used precut stair stringers before. Now that I've given Home Depot's pre-cut stringers a try I will never cut my own stringers again. A job that would have taken 10 hours was reduced to 8 hours, not to mention the wear and tear on my saw blade. I also didn't have additional cleanup and it reduced my discarding of scraps considerably.

I've installed many stringers without issue. Both of these cracked prior to completing job.

Received the product and it was warped. Not impressed. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

The stringers were delivered unharmed, although it took forever to get them once they were ordered.

Needed Three 2 step stringers and figured I would go the lazy route. They're probably fine but it looks like they used some crappy wood to make them. Two of the stringers have small splits in them and the other looks like it was hit with a crowbar a few times randomly. They were shipped in a cardboard box with 2 plastic ties holding it closed, no packaging material inside the box, no tape on the box. Pretty poor.
