Answer This Question
A:Â Tami, these stair stringers are sold individually and can be customized to fit the specific measurements of your project.

A:Â These are the stringer that support the stairs. For a 36-inch opening you would need 3 stringers, one on each side and one in the center. You can use 36 in wide stair treads or maybe 42-inch wide tread so you have some overhang.

Q:On 8-step stringer spec sheet product height listed as 95.96 (~8 feet). In one previous answer vertical height is 55 ?? Do i need 8' clearance in my vehicle to lay flat at pick-up?

Answer This Question
A:Â I believe you are confusing the vertical height with the stringer length. Typical rise is ~7.5 in, so an 8-step stringer will have 9 rises at 7.5 in or 67.5 in height. The stringer length is the length of 2x12 that you need to cut the riser and is ~8 ft .
by|Nov 14, 2023
A:Â Bw52, please ensure that you have sufficient clearance for 80 inches, as this is the measurement of the stair stringer profile.

Don’t waste your time and money!
I purchased 3 of these 8 step stringers. One had an end completely broke off upon delivery so I contacted Home Depot via text with pictures immediately after FedEx delivered them. I’d explain the entire disappointing story, but I only get 500 characters. Suffice it to say, it took 3 orders (RECEIVED BROKEN) to get 3 sub quality stringers that had to be reinforced just to use them. HD does not ship these, the vendor does, and uses ZERO PACKING PROTECTION. HD should drop this vendor. TERRIBLE

poor quality stair stringers
I purchased these pre-cut stair stringers. They are garbage made with poor qaulity lumber. I should have bought my own wood and taken the time to cut the stringers myself.

Unsafe they are not consistent in size
I bought 11 of these only to discover that the dimensions of each one were different. Maybe 5 of 11 were making contact with the steps carrying load. Besides being impossible to build straight stairs they are unsafe.

Time Saving Solution For Long Stair Runs
These pine stringers saved me a lot of time and effort when I needed to rebuild my entire porch. It is difficult to find a 8-step stringer. The stringers I received were in excellent shape and Home Depot even shipped them for free. I mounted the stringers using concealed stringer hangers for a strong and safe connection. Some reviews mention that these stringers are splitting, but I have had them outside for over 5 months with no excessive splits or cracks, known as checks. I let the stringers dry outside for about 4 months before applying a weather seal stain. These stringers are a real time saver for longer stair runs.
