Hello, Thanks for writing a review and we’re sorry to have learned your issues. New motors often will have a break-in, "motor odor." This should go away after several minutes of running. The cause is the varnish that is on the motor windings. After the break-in period, this odor should not be present. If the odor persist even after using it the vacuum in accumulative of 30 mins. then we do recommend it to be returned to the store where is was purchased. Hello JDub, We are sorry to know what happened with the vacuum. However, RIDGID wet/dry vacuums have a lifetime warranty for the product. And the lifetime warranty covers the motor of the vacuum specially in this cases the it stopped working. Moreover, before the vacuum can be replaced, we need to do an inspection on the unit and you need to initiate the warranty claim process for the vacuum. While a lot of users are happy with the performance of this vac and we're not certain what job you're using the vac for, you may need a vac with higher CFM. The higher the CFM, the more efficient it will pick up debris. This vac is rated at 161 CFM suction power. Additionally, there are indeed several factors that can affect the actual airflow of our product. Turbulence in the hose and wands, restrictions on airflow where the cleaning tool meets the floor or other surfaces, increased resistance due to the bag filling with dirt, as well as filter loading can all contribute to variations in airflow performance.
