Customer Reviews for RIDGID 2.4 Amp Corded 1/4 Sheet Sander with AIRGUARD Technology

First one was repaired, then it started smoking the exchange process is a pain waiting for repairs sucks and for some reason I bought it again and now started smoking in the middle of a job. Buyer beware do not buy this trash.

I bought this sander because I have other rigid power tools and they are a quality product. However the pad on this sander wore out on the very first day of use. Very disappointing! :(

Little to no dust did a great job

The sander is easy to use, it's easy to change the paper and it doesn't make a huge mess

I've used this unit for a handful of years - it works (runs) fine. The evac on the rear is nice because it fits both the big shop vac and small shop vac hoses. The "hole press" which puts holes in the paper to allow the sawdust to stay mostly in the machine and travel to the shop vac is very handy - and needed. The rub - I've put some $40+ into buying new/replacement "plates" that hold onto the sand paper. The front "clip" is flat out a bad design - it is plastic so it wears poorly as you put sandpaper in - and worse - the "rotation" of the clip actually pushes the sandpaper OUT of the front. I have used a $5 sander from another vendor with much, MUCH better luck holding onto the paper... Thus - a 2 star rating.

Lightweight, Powerful and easy to load. Not sure how durable this sander is but so far very happy with it's performance. The dust collector works very well, is easy to empty and the sander is very powerful for it's small size. The handle is insulated and comfortable and keeps the vibration to a minimum. Currently using the sander on a large project finishing multiple sheets of plywood flooring to prep for urethane coating and fine sanding between coats. Time will tell how durable this item is but so far am very pleased with this sander.

Having had numerous Sanders thru the years RIDGID has performed beyond expectation. Also as a long time RIDGID owner the life time warranty cannot be best in the industry

Good sander... I just don't like where the on/off switch is located... I always seem to switch it off.

As a sander it was fine. I got this as a gift and have used it for less than a hour. The front paper holder plastic clip broke make it useless.

Rugged design that feels like it won't shake apart, and a lifetime replacement promise.

The overwhelming majority of power tools I own have the Ridgid name on them. Typically I feel they are well designed, durable and carry an unbeatable warranty (as long as you register them). With that being said this is one Ridgid tool I can't recommend. The dust collection is about worthless. After a couple hours of use there is easily double the amount of dust on the outside of the sander (mostly covered) than in the dust collection (almost empty). The dust collection is coming apart after a small handful of short uses. If you choose to buy this you'll want to leave room in the budget for a sufficient respirator. It's mostly uncontrollable. It seems to have good power (the only reason I didn't give it one star) however I'm not sure what good the power is if you can't control where you're sanding. The only application it maybe tolerable for is large surfaces, and only if you're ok sanding the outer edge of the surface by hand. Several review claimed it has a 12' cord, mine only has a 6'. On a side note I didn't have the issue of sand paper not staying put as many of the other reviews, which may've been a result of limited use. Thankful Ridgid has a 90 day no questions asked return policy.

I just built my dining room table and used this for all sanding. It did a great job sanding and also capturing the dust. I have used sander without the vacuum feature and it is almost unbearable on a big job. This was almost like no dust in the air! Awesome! I also love that it comes with a template to puncture holes in third part sand paper so you can utilize the vacuum feature no matter what paper you use. Recommended.

Works OK on coarse-grit paper (up to 150) but after a few uses, front spring clip no longer grips 220 grit. Paper flies out as soon as I apply the sander to wood, damaging wood surface. Very poor design. I tried everything - folding the edge, trimming to penetrate deeper (see photo), but nothing helps. Also, the rubber pad quickly develops permanent grooves if you sand square edges, which is a common need.

I've used this sander for one small project (sanding an old captains bed). Went to use it to sand my door jamb, and it broke, the bed came right off of the sander! Looking closer it's connected to the sander body with plastic... cheap construction. In my opinion, I would NOT have bought this sander if I had known it's internal construction was plastic. Makes short work of finish sanding.

Works good. The only reason why it's not 5 star because the 1/4 sandpaper that you replenish alway sticks to the rubber pad.

No assembly required. Heavy duty well built sander, easy to attach sandpaper . I sanded a large rail around my porch

Great sander and it works very well on small wood projects, tables, etc.

Compared to our 2.4 amp black and decker, this sander is quite weak.

Did not control dust as well as expected

What we wanted is not what we wanted.

Overall a great Sander!

It helped smooth out the rough edges however, I would highly recommend blocking off other areas so the dust is contained in the space.

I recommend This tools the prices very flexible but the tool very efficient
