Bar oil leaks
A main complain is the bar oil leakage. If any bar oil left after usage it leaks out in an hour. It would have been a decent saw if it didn't have this design flaw. It seems this is very common for the model. I own another chain saw (gas powered, different brand) and it has no issues.

Hello, Foresterguy - We're sorry to see that you've been disappointed with your chainsaw! Given the nature of chainsaws, it is normal for oil to seep from the saw when not in use. To prevent seepage, empty the oil tank after each use. When storing the unit for a long period of time (three months or longer) be sure the chain is lightly lubricated; this will prevent rust on the chain and bar sprocket. Already ruined.
My first one star review never posted (or hasn't yet-3 days later). I purchased this chainsaw April 2023 and it's already broken in October. We have used it maybe 3 times. We have trusted the RYOBI brand for many years. Our lawnmower, drills, sander, weed eater, edger, blower...you name it and we have it in the RYOBI brand. Unfortunately, this item didn't live up!

Dead on arrival
I bought 14 inch Ryobi chainsaw four years ago and it survived a lot of abuse. It is powerful enough and reliable tool. I ordered 16 inch chainsaw to replace the old one, and received product dead on arrival. Will see how Homedepot will handle the exchange and will update status accordingly.

Battery life is rediculous
I used my brand new saw with its brand new battery fully charged to cut a tree trunk into rounds. The tree was 20 inches diameter. No slugging or dragging on the cut sharp chain but barely got 3 cuts before battery died.

Hello, Homedepotcustomer - We are sorry to hear about the difficulty you're having! This issue may be related to chain stretching. (Before replacing the bar, chain, or adjusting the chain tension, stop the motor, wait for all moving parts to stop, disconnect from the power supply or remove the battery pack. Also, wear protective gloves.) All new chains will stretch during the first 20 minutes or so of use. So, when you are using a new chain, you will have to re-tighten the chain every 5-10 minutes or the first 20 minutes to get your chain to the right tension. This happens because new chains have not been heated up before, so when they heat up on the saw they stretch. After you get about 20 mins of use on the chain, it will not stretch or shrink, and you will only have to check the tension before starting a project. Absolutly Amazed!
This thing is amazing!
It actually outcuts my gas saw!
I use it to cut up fallen hardwoods in my yard, and for firewood -- no gas, no yanking!
Also, it DOESN'T BIND if you dull out the chain! -- It keeps going and will smoke the chain if you don't stop!
AMAZING torque!
Cuts wet hardwood FAST!
I find the 4AH battery is about the same as a tank of gas in the gas ones -- just quieter and less mess.
Yes, mine leaks a little -- but I've never owed any chainsaw that didn't, so who cares?

This chainsaw is excellent. 16” blade is just the right size even for some bigger jobs. It delivers very good power and is comfortable to hold. I got a decent number of large cuts with one battery. Always use a Ryobi battery with this and not a generic battery. Don’t forget the bar oil. Don’t pour in too much because it will leak out when you are done.

Dead on arrival Difficult to exchange
Item arrived quickly in its original box, retail no overpack, but no visible damage. However, upon trying to use it was dead on arrival - no sign of life.
Tried two fully charged 40V batteries that work on other compatible Ryobi tools - nothing.
Discovered that on-line exchanges are impossible. Have to call a Home Depot 800 number, only to be told (after 10 minutes on hold) that I have to call Ryobi directly during business hours on a weekday. WHY ISN'T THIS JUST NOTED ON THE WEBSITE??

A wonderful tool
A wonderful tool. Just wish the power cord was attached to the charger. When missing, I could not simply buy a new cord, but had to buy it with a new charger.

Easy to start, easy to use, lots of power
I was always so frustrated with my gas mower, and must admit it was probably due to my lack of experience in using it. This is great for me, easy to start, easy to maintain. Battery life is good though I do have another battery for my electric lawnmower that I use to get extra cutting time. Really enjoy this piece of equipment.
