    Incredible power, Clean cut
This lawnmower with dual blades cuts through my grass like butter. So far, I've only used rear bagging. The dual blades are efficient and cut incredibly clean and level. My yard is only .2 acres but the grass is thick and plush (see photos). I cut nearly half the length off preparing for winter (normally I only cut 1/3rd). This mower plowed through the grass without a beat. My Craftsman with a 6.25 hpToro engine boggs down in the front yard. The Ryobi didn't miss a beat. My .2 acre lawn used 1/2 of 1 battery. I mowed a second time using the self-propelled feature and it used an entire single battery. Very happy with this mower.

      Love the RYOBI mower
I have used a lot of different mowers in my life and this is by far the best experience I've had cutting my grass. It combines all the convenience of battery powered equipment but with all the power of gas. The cutting performance with the two blades was exceptional. I rarely cut at full speed with a self propelled mower because I want to ensure a clean cut but with this mower I was able to cut at top speed and never saw an uneven line or missed clippings. Great mower! Highly recommend to anyone who is skeptical of the power of battery mowers.

      A Real Workhorse
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought the lawnmower because of ease of use. My lawn was a bit higher when I got the mower but the machine did a great job on higher than usual grass cutting

Great mower but a bit heavier than previous models
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this mower due to a replacement for my previous model which broke and couldn’t be fixed. It’s a really nice mower and cuts well but the only drawback is the increase in weight.

          Enjoy cutting your lawn
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Took me some time to start cutting my lawn myself instead of using a lawn service. Picked up this mower a few month ago and haven't looked back since. While the mower is quite heavy, the self-propelled forward motion makes handing of this mower a breeze. Even on steeper inclines the larger, powered wheels in the back offer good traction. Cut grass can be bagged, side-discharged, or mulched. Mulching results in small cut, evenly distributed clippings. No clumps of grass or any need to walk your yard a second time. The 21" dual cross-cut blades seem to provide consistent quality for the cut - even at the higher speed. The battery bay holds two 40v batteries. Only one is used at a time. A simple switch plug toggles which battery is used. Switching takes few seconds only. My mower does not show any signs of the blades cutting into the plastic casing - even after several usages.

Double blade really does make a difference
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Upgraded from the 20in push version because I wasn't happy with how well it mulched the clippings. This mower is significantly better. Lawn looks cleaner, grass looks healthier. Very much worth the upgrade!

Amazing Mower that clears grass and weeds
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this mower a month ago for my daughter (11F) to do some yard work to pay for her scouting activities. She couldn’t pull the starter cord on our ez pull existing gas mower and refused to touch a gas can so I got this mower because it came with two 6AH batteries and had crosscut to deal with thicker weeds. This thing is amazing and really takes the chore out of mowing. It takes a full battery and 75% of the second battery for a bit over 1/3 acre with all the turning and working at kid speed. It’s half as loud as a gas mower and I think the only battery mower that can me moved without engaging the blades. Since I purchased this mower I’ve also gotten the 40v HP branch trimmer, weed wacker, and leaf blower and I’ve been impressed with all of them. I also really appreciate the folding storage option since it doesn’t have gas the whole mower can be stood up and kept out of the way.

                Perfect, BUT.....
I just bought this today, got it home, charged the batteries, and couldn't wait to use it. Cuts the grass so easily, works great. However, I used it for about 30 minutes and the blades already cut into the housing!!!! Come on Ryobi, fix this issue!!

                  Great Mower...... Very Happy
I waited a few months of use before writing this review to insure that it would hold up to weekly use. In Florida this time of year we mow every 5 days. The mower is very light and easy to push, the self propel feature is very useful. The mulch feature chops the grass better that any prior mower I have used. The battery life is good and I can mow my entire yard with one battery charge. This mower is very easy to store with the one lever folding handle feature and it stands up vertically taking up very little space. The final thing that made me fall in love with this mower it that my wife also enjoys using it. It is supper quiet and safe. Very happy with this mower.

                    Heartbroken
Hate writing a negative review but the picture speak for themselves. Maybe if you have a perfectly flat yard it will work but any kind of dip or slope will cause the blades to dig into the deck. I contacted customer support and all they could tell me was take it to the service center. Its advertised that the deck has a lifetime warranty but the word I got from Ryobi’s support staff was that I had to take my time to drive it 45 min away for service so they could evaluate if it was my fault. Read the hundreds of complaints about the same thing. Deeply disappointed.

                      wont start
This is my 3rd ryobi lawn mower and the most feature rich. I was excited to buy it even though it was $599. Its very heavy compared to the first two and it now wont start. The self propelled piece works but the blades dont. Ive had it for 4 months and now have to take it for a warranty check at the store. 1 star review as this should not happen with a basic yard size and limited usage.

                        Wait for new version!!
I really liked the mower with given price anf would have kept it but i had to return. This was my first battety mower. Coming from string i really enjoyed one switch start up. Power was ok. Battery lasted about 50-60min with side discharge but if mulching it will juice more power and battery wont last that much. I liked easiness to store with one handle. But the reason I returned is blades chews its own deck from inside. I just mowed twice and my lawn is about 8k and here are the pics. Then i read other reviews and some are having same issues so seems some design flow? Hopefully ryobi will fix in its next upgrade!!!

                          High quality battery operated mower!
The assembly for this mower was very simple. Open box, fold up handle, and assembly is complete. The mower comes with two batteries and both batteries can be placed into the mower at the same time. The mower is equipped with a red operation key. This key prevents the use of the mower without the key installed. It also allows you to select which battery you want to use when operating the mower. The key has a directional arrow on it and you flip the arrow around to select the battery you want to use. I also own a Kobalt electric mower. The Kobalt works good, but when you compare the build quality between the two mowers the Ryobi is much better. Most of the parts are beefier on the Ryobi with out an Apparent weight penalty. Additionally I am super excited that this mower was built in the United States of America.

Nice features, but blades cut into deck
I really wanted to love this mower. Not having to worry about gas and oil every session is great and the batteries seem to have the power and length of charge necessary. There is a major design flaw though that others have mentioned in that if you aren't very careful on any turns the blade will cut into the deck because the deck flexes. This may be a dealbreaker for me. I'm still in the return period so haven't made a final decision on whether to return or not yet but fee like after a couple years of this the deck will be in bad shape.

                              Almost Perfect
After first use it seems that the mower will perform as expected. Very quite, no gas and no oil to deal with. As others have noted the housing is a bit flimsy. On first startup the blade gouged the housing. This occurred on extremely level ground. I would not expect this to work well on hilly terrain

the blades make circles on your lawn
I thought it was because I had the blades set too low. I adjusted the blades up to mid level and still creates circles in lawn all over the place. Seems like a design flaw of some sort. I have never had a lawn mower make circles in the lawn like this one does. Its as if the blades are not balanced and cut deep gouges into some areas.

Had to modify the self propel lever
I have small hands and arthritis. Now I can use the base of my palm to push the lever. We purchased it because we have all Ryobi tools. Mower works well. Leaves fewer tall pieces of grass with the bagger on.

Love all my Ryobi toys, but this is a miss...
In short, this mower is a safety hazard and i returned mine promptly. For starters, the self-propelled mower is not covered or protected by anything. After my first mow, there were electrical wires dragging the ground. Second, there is definitely not enough clearance between the blades and the flimsy deck. I bumped a tree trunk with the deck trying to cut around it, with minimal force, and the blades gouged the inside of the deck. The deck is not stiff enough to have such a minute amount if clearance. This mower was quickly designed without forethought to safety or care for the user and is cheaply made despite its $600 price tag. Hopefully Ryobi learns its lesson with this model and goes back to making honest products.

                                      Very misleading and poorly made
I used this mower ONE time. It missed countless spots of grass, chopped up the interior of the blade housing with its own blades and one fully charged battery couldn't last to mow my less than 2000 sq ft back yard. I've attached pictures. The advertising of runtime and lawn size for the batteries is extremely misleading and product is not made well enough to keep it from cutting itself up. One other thing I ran into is, while my hands were firmly on the safety the mower would stop and I would have to restart. I am considerably less than impressed.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My son bought this same unit last summer & raves about it. I borrowed it yesterday to try it out.... loved it, bought one today! Very lightweight. Battery lasted to do entire front yard(large front yard). Highly recommended.

Top of the line. No more gas to fuss with and the battery allows enough time for me to finish the job. Reliable start all the time and no more crazy cleanup. Satisfied and impressed with the great cut. I spend less time getting my lawn done and that works great for me

Unpacked this bad boy and instantly knew I had made a good choice. Even with both batteries in it is still light weight and easy to maneuver making quick work of my yard. Mowed my yard in half the time as my old gas lawn mower and still had a high quality level cut without bogging down. I feel like a caveman for mowing with a push gas lawnmower for so long. To the moon!

                                              6 mows in, I’m happy
I’m using the brushless walk behind dual blade self propelled. Simple to use out of the box. Came with 2 batteries. They charge quickly. My front and back (pictured) lawn barely use up one full battery charge. The dual blade cut is terrific. Frequently with my old gas husqvarna mower I’d have missed grass that I had to go back over, not an issue with this mower. The bagging is excellent as well with more finely cut grass. I’m only 1 month in to having this mower and there’s nothing I don’t like about it. I’ve bagged every time and haven’t used mulching feature yet. The only question will be how long will the batteries hold up, and what will be the cost to replace them when the time comes.

Quality issues and possible major design flaw. Very powerful mower though.
I am reposting this review as it was inexplicably deleted after being submitted on May 22nd, and approved by HD on May 23, 2021. I noticed on May 28th that my original posting had been deleted. Below is the original review: I loved the power of this mower. I bought it to replace a competitor-brand 28” wide mower that eats belts, gas, and oil like crazy. I also own tons of Ryobi 18V tools, but this is my first 40V tool. Unfortunately, this Ryobi mower had a couple issues on its first and only mow. 1) Within the first 5 feet of mowing, one of the front decorative black hubcaps fell off and the mower immediately ground it up and ate it for lunch. Just cosmetic, but still frustrating. 2) The second issue is more serious. Per a couple other comments, I am experiencing issues with the blade cutting into the underside of the polypropylene deck. It seems to occasionally do this when turning corners and going around shrubs, but I have not quite figured out the pattern. I am not a mower design expert, but I am a mechanical engineer. I suspect the mower design did not account for the flexing of the polypropylene deck. Assuming the pictures attached correctly, you can see how much damage occurred within just 15 minutes. The double-blade started removing chunks and slivers of plastic in two nice rows that lined up with the upper and lower blades perfectly. To be clear, I wanted to like this mower. That double-blade design obliterates grass clippings, and the power is comparable to gas. But the blade rubbing the deck makes me nervous. Back to the store it goes.

Impressive Mower! Easy Set-up, Well Built, Great Run Time
Purchased this mower at the beginning of the season to replace an old gas mower - since I can't afford a Tesla, I figured I could at least go for a battery powered mower! Now that I've used it 4-5, I feel comfortable leaving a review. Wow, I love this unit....in hindsight I should have converted from gas to battery much sooner. Now that I'm all in on the Ryobi battery powered system (trimmer, blower, edger, mower) I'm excited to get rid of these gas cans I've had to keep in the garage/'man cave'. I was very excited to get 2 6aH batteries with the mower - very nice addition to my lineup of batteries to use between Ryobi's products. As far as the performance goes - it is well built, cuts as expected, the self propel with variable speed control works great. No issues with run time as I used one of the 6aH to trim before and after cutting and it still had some juice left. Setup was easy and intuitive, unlock and raise the handle, put in the batteries and go! I also like that is folds up very easily and can be stood up vertically - much smaller footprint that my gas mower! Will plan to follow-up at end of season with any notable updates, but so far I'm very impressed! (think I talked my neighbor into getting one as well)

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I decided to upgrade from my Ryobi self-propelled 20” brushless mower for the new 21” Ryobi mower. While the 20” was still a great mower, I instantly saw the benefits of the newer mower. My new mower felt more sturdy and easier to control. It also tore through my overgrown lawn with ease making the job quick and painless. I also love the new batteries and rapid charger that comes with this model. My new batteries were charged in no time and ready to go. I highly recommend upgrading to this mower if you already have a Ryobi or if you have a gas mower, making a switch to the best electric mower on the market.

                                                        Impressive mower
Great machine, was easy to assemble and directions were not misleading in any way. I was skeptical about making the switch from gas to electric only because of battery life. Being able to get my yard done in one charge was a must. That hasn’t been an issue, I’ve been using this mower for the past month and I use 1 and half batteries to cut a 10,000 sq ft yard. It hasn’t skipped a beat. The push to start is by far the most convenient feature in my opinion. Looking forward to maintaining my yard with this mower!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve used this lawn mower several times to mow our 0.34-acre lot, and I was am impressed with how well it does the job. Set-up is simple with one lever to unfold/adjust the handle (2-positions) and one lever to adjust the cutting height. The mower’s large battery cover offers plenty of room for adding/removing the two batteries, and they easily click into place. Plus, the red “start” key for switching between batteries is large, easy to grasp, and sturdy. While mowing, I prefer to use the side discharge with the crosscut combo dual blades for cutting the grass into smaller pieces. This requires installing the mulching plug in the rear of the machine and adding the side discharge chute. The handle features a single start button, separate left and right “run” levers, and a single self-propelled paddle with a sliding speed selector. The handle shape is comfortable to grip, and my hands felt fine after mowing the entire lawn. The lawn (grass and weeds) was taller than usual during the first cut of the season, so I selected the third height level. The motor maintained a constant speed while cutting the lawn, and the RPMs increased while going through the thicker parts – pretty cool! Small branches were scattered in a few parts of the yard, and the mower easily chewed them up. Three quarters of my lawn is fairly level, so I did not need to use the self-propelled feature during the entire cut – the feature worked well when I needed it. However, my wife uses it frequently, and she loves the self-propelled feature! The two 40-volt, 6-amp hour batteries provided ample run-time to mow my lawn. Since I sparingly used the self-propelled feature, the run-time for the first battery was around 40 minutes – I only used about a quarter of the charge from the second battery to finish mowing my lawn. In summary, the mower’s ease of use, handle features and comfort, as well as sufficient run-time make the RYOBI 21-inch, 40-volt brushless crosscut self-propelled lawn mower an excellent choice for tackling the yard. I would highly recommend this mower, and the ability to store the machine in the vertical position is a wonderful bonus!
