    A:  Hello, Davidp - Thank you for your question. When using the bump feed trimmer head: Rotate the bump knob clockwise as necessary to align the arrows on the bump knob with the arrows on the string head housing. Cut one piece of trimmer line 10 ft. long. Insert the line into the eyelet on the string head housing. Push until the end of the line comes out the other side of the housing. Pull the line until equal amounts of line appear on both sides of the housing. NOTE: Line may jam if more than 10 ft. is loaded. Either by hand or using the SPEED WINDER™, rotate the bump knob clockwise to wind the line on the spool until approximately 6 in. of line is showing on each side. NOTE: For best results, after every five to seven revolutions of the SPEED WINDER™, pull both line ends taut for best loading results and to help prevent line from tangling. Push the bump knob down while pulling on line(s) to manually advance the line. When using line in the fixed line/blade housing: Remove old line from the string head by pulling one side of the line. Fold an 11 in. piece of pre-cut line in half so each half is equal in length. Insert the ends of the line through the eyelet in the post and pull tight. Repeat wth the other post I hope this helps!       Carbon fiber is for real
      I have the "original" 40V brushless weed eater which I have been using it heavily for 2-3 years now for brush clearance. I finally destroyed the head of the string trimmer and decided to give the carbon fiber a shot. The carbon fiber is significantly lighter than the old version and it makes a big difference. In terms of power, it truly does have gas-like power. The battery lasts long enough to trim a yard. If you're trying to clear a large area, you'll need a few batteries.

          Nice combo... 40V kicks it!
          I already had this same weed trimmer; I bought it last year. The 40V really makes this as powerful as my Stihl... maybe a bit more. I received this combo as a promotion for purchasing an 80V lawn tractor. I've put the trimmer away as a backup but I am using the blower. It works great and my only nitpick is that my pants get sucked-in against the back of the intake. Not a serious issue and certainly not dangerous... just weird.

          DONT BUY
          after owning it for 1 year, it just stopped working in the middle of using it. It’s never gotten wet or left in the sun. The back has always been clear and away from loose items or clothing. I bought the warranty through Home Depot, I tried to make a claim, told me that it’s under the Mnfctr 2yr warranty still and to contact them.. so I did and RYOBI’s warranty center is a disappointment. Watch the videos on YouTube and you’ll find out why, hopefully before you buy, unlike me.

              Poor quality, poor performance.
              Following all of the positive reviews I purchased this model. Unfortunately for me I'm the 1% who's trimmer came apart after only 40 minutes of use. The nut (now lost) securing the grass deflector vibrated off (with proper tightening). Minutes after that, the string completely retracted into the string head. Against my better judgement I disassembled the string head to uncoil the string and now after repeated attempts I can't get the string head back together. The unit and it's parts are back in the box available at my next yard sale. No, I don't recommend this model.

                Several negatives
                Upon first use, the edger guard for this trimmer was damaged by a small rock that was kicked up, for which I exchanged for a new one. Also, the center of the unit was smoking and extremely hot as the tightening screw managed to loosen thereby separating the drive shaft components and friction was creating the smoking. Third, the battery life, at 45 minutes was disappointing. Lastly, the trimmer head was difficult to reinstall - I needed to put the head in a vise to have enough hand strength to force the head back on. I will be returning this as it is a lot of money for so much failure and disappointment.

                  Great trimmer, blower not so much
                  Great trimmer and blower, unfortunately the plastic isn't too resilient in the cold as the blower tube broke on me while moving it in my cold garage last winter. I expected better at this price point.

                    OK but not equivelent to a Gas model
                    Our town banned gas blowers so I purchased this one. My old blower was a hand held gas. This one will work fine for light summer blowing and it is pretty powerful abut just is not quite the power needed for fall work. Also, the two connections in the photos are very weak and with continued use I anticipate having to use duct tape to reinforce the connections. Already the rubber end as well as the entire black tube fall of if they hit anything.
