Its a great idea for hard to reach areas
However please be careful if using the full extension. It becomes a weight counterbalance game. You don't realize it until you have it fully extended, and have to cut a tree at an angle to project the falling the way you want it to. Mine were the Agave vertical spires that look like Asparagus in the center. Agave were about 8'-10' diameters and 8' tall, and I wanted to lop off the vertical Asparagus out of the center, without getting skewered, when you have that much weight above.

    Came in the box defective.
I ordered a Ryobi Pole Saw online. It had a defective plug in the main pole. I can't find a way to make a return online.

      Missing pieces
There is supposed to be a shoulder strap in the box (see photo). Very disappointed in Home Depot and UPS.

        Cuts Easily
I've never had a pole saw. This one is light enough to allow for cutting of six or seven two inch limbs in one pass. the weight an balances take a bit to get used to. To me it seems like this will only work well with all extensions used. Adding oil is a bit problematic because it is difficult to know when the reservoir will fill up. Most chain saws I have used are the same way. Adding a couple of Velcro straps to hold together all the pieces would be a nice addition. I would recommend the unit for the casual tree-trimming home owner.

Easy to Handle Not Too Heavy
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this product to trim the tree limbs hanging over our house. Let me just say it made quick work of a job that could have taken hours and a lot of muscle. Once we got it home it only took 30minutes to cut the limbs and take them to the curb for pick up. That included a 10minute water break. Now there are no limbs brushing across my shingles every time the wind blows. Great product that is easy to handle.

          Nice pole saw
Got this pole saw to trim up my tree and it works great ! Only thing bad is that only one section can be removed to shorten the length. It would be nice if both sections could be removed for lower branches. I like the tool holder built in for easy use and you know we’re it is at. The blade cover could be a little bit more durable. The pole saw is lite and easy to move around when trimming your trees.

          Excellent pole saw
I’ve been wanting a pole saw for quite a while now, as the oak trees in my back yard are getting a little big. I just wanted to trim them up but they have gotten way too tall for a ladder. As I already have a ton of Ryobi products, there was no question I was going to add the Ryobi pole saw to my outdoor tool collection. The new HP series has been great, and this tool is both powerful and fairly quiet to use. The extendable handle is a great length for getting to those hard to reach branches, but being that it’s adjustable, you can configure this in a few ways. I even use this for smaller jobs with the smallest extension I can configure. This is perfect for getting those small trees or bushes without extending your arms or back too much. I’m very happy with this pole saw!

          Good tool
The Ryobi 18 Volt Pole Saw sold by The Home Depot definitely is a quality product. The saw is very easy to use and a safe unit. I like that it comes with a battery and battery charger. The battery itself has LED lights to indicate the amount of charge and is interchangeable with other Ryobi products of the same voltage. It’s nice that it has a long reaching solid pole so you can cut when your on the ground versus being on a ladder. This is a wonderful saw.

          A little disappointing
I was somewhat disappointed in my new Ryobi ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Whisper Series 8 in. Cordless Battery Pole Saw with 2.0 Ah Battery and Charger! It was very heavy and awkward to use, and even with the brand new 2 Ah battery that came with it, kept getting bogged down. Despite their claim of being able to cut a 6-inch limb, the largest limb I was able to cut measured 3 ½ inches from my Chinaberry tree. I have used many different pole saws in my time, but I wouldn’t recommend this one unless it was an absolute necessity! It’s rare when Ryobi doesn’t hit a home run, but they didn’t get one this time!

          YES
I give the RYOBI ONE+ Brushless pole saw two thumbs up for what it is. It is a great tool for pruning branches overhead. It makes for much quicker work than the manual pole saw which gets hung up and is a super workout for your shoulders. The only thing to be aware of is that the saw is tool head heavy, and takes a little getting used to. Go slow, and practice maneuvering before you let 'er rip.

RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Whisper Series 8 in. Cordless Battery Pole Saw
This is money well spent. I have been using a manual pole saw for awhile and it takes a toll on my body. This solves that problem. If you already have ryobi products you can use the same battery. I have a few batteries on hand, and with the amount that I use it, i never have to worry about running out of power. I was thinking about getting a power head with attachments, but this was a better price and you wont need to worry about gas.

My Cedar tree was no match for the Ryobi, Whisper Series 18 Volt Cordless Pole Saw.
My Cedar tree was no match for the Ryobi, Whisper Series 18 Volt Cordless Pole Saw. Using this Ryobi Pole Saw was fun. The 8-inch chain and bar rested nicely on each limb I cut. I simply pulled the trigger and down the limb came. The pole saw can be assembled in either a 6.5 ft. or 9.5 ft. length. I built both lengths during my first trials. Assembly of the pole saw is easy. The first thing I did was to put oil in the chain lube tank. I clamped the chainsaw end of the pole saw into my workmate. The lube tank only holds 2 oz. of oil so pour slowly. Also plan on using a funnel to avoid a mess because the opening on the tanks is quite small. Replace the cap on the tank snuggly. The next thing I checked was the chain tension. You don’t want a loose chain that can come off and get hung up in the tree up 9 ½ feet in the air. A handy tool for the chain adjustment is stored in the handle of the pole saw. It is a combination wrench and screwdriver. The manual has all the details of how to properly tension the chain. The manual says that the flats of a warm chain should hang ~ .050 inches out of the bar groove on the bottom side of the bar.. There is a nice picture in the manual detailing the assembly of pole sections of the saw. The collars were easy to grip and tighten making a strong and secure pole. There is also a nice shoulder strap to help support the weight of the pole saw when working. The last step is to insert the 2Ah battery provided with the saw. It took about 30 minutes to fully charge using the provided charger. With a new chain and sharp teeth, the pole saw cut through limbs effortlessly. The maximum limb diameter is stated as 6 inches. One word of caution when cutting, wear a hard hat or bump cap and use safety glasses. I did not do this (even though I know better) and had a limb land on my head when it fell. It was a smaller limb so I lucked out with only a minor scrape. From now on I'm wearing my bump cap. This pole saw works great and will allow me to take care of my trees for years. I have a couple of manual pole saws I’ve used in the past, but this Ryobi 18-volt Cordless Pole Saw is certainly much less work. I’m totally removing the cedar tree I mentioned in the title of this review so when you look at the pictures don’t think I had too much fun.

          Cuts extremely fast
I received this pole saw as a free tool when buying a multiple battery pack. I had it for over a year before I had a chance to use it. You will never know that this tool is battery powered or only 18 volt. The blade spins at a "gas powered" rate of speed and slices through trees with ease. There is a notch on the unit that allows it to stabilize and stay connected to the tree and if you do that, it works tremendously.

            Long lasting battery and chain
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this polesaw for a project to clean up several very damaged trees. I'm happy with the performance and the saw basically paid for itself after a few hours of use. The batteries seem to last long enough and I am surprised how long the chain stayed sharp enough to cut through thick limbs. I like the reach of the saw when the middle extension section is in place, however the saw is much easier to use without the extension.

              Does The Job But
Has good power and the blade is sharp so cuts through thick branches easily. The power head is at the blade so it's a little hard to balance and make undercuts. It uses a tremendous amount of bar oil and it doesn't hold much in the reservoir so you have to refill often. I can see it spraying off the chain as it cuts. Finally it's a chain saw so don't expect real clean cuts.

Works well. It's a little heavy on front end. Use caution when the pole is fully extended. Because of the front end weight be very careful when using it while on a ladder. Battery life is good. Better than I expected. My only real complaint is you can't adjust it to where it's short enough to make close cuts.

Great sale deal. Was able to reach limbs that would have required paying a professional to cut down. Great tool!

The saw broke the 2nd time I used it. Plastic parts on the chain tensioner are probably not great for durability. Luckily they were good about the warranty and replaced the saw.

                Easy trimming
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this to replace the gas powered pole saw. It was much easier to start the battery saw , but the saw was a little awkward to use when fully extended- the pole felt like it wasn’t quite sturdy enough. When you took the middle section out of the pole, it was balanced better and easier to use.

Powerful. Quiet. Long Reach. Faster than estimated delivery. I tore through numerous 2in to 6in Live Oak branches on day 1. The 4mah battery was still 75% full when I finished. The handy hook behind the blade was a lifesaver for pulling down tangled branches. Be warned it goes through chain oil fairly fast. I use cheap 10w30 instead of their liquor-priced lube.

This saw was easy to use, although it is top heavy. Added the oil and was able to trim all our trees with plenty of battery power left. Highly recommend!
