EASE OF INSTALL, SIMPLE LAYOUT WITHOUT ALL THE ELECTRONICS WHICH SEEM TO CAUSE PROBLEMS

I was able to install this water heater in about 3 hours. I'm sure I could have done it a lot quicker or professionals could have done in half the time but I wanted to take my time and make sure it was setup correctly. It replaced an 18 year old unit that was running on it's last legs and I wanted to avoid a disaster. It can be setup without and soldering by using sharkbite attachments. Also I replaced the drain valve with a 3/4 ball valve for quick and easy draining. Initially I had some issues getting the pilot light to go on and was getting frustrated. I did call their support line and spoke to a very patient lady who guided me on getting the light on. It took just about 20 minutes of some minor troubleshooting but we were up and running soon after. I don't recall the lady's name that assisted me but I give her a lot of credit for having angel like patience while I was getting frustrated. That goes very far in my book and I could not be more pleased. It's been a few days now and our hot water is coming out piping hot compared to my old unit. I'm hoping I can get another 18 years out of this unit as well. In 5 years I'll replace out the anode rod to prolong it's life. So far I'm very please with this Rheem Performance Platinum 50 Gal hot water heater.

Let me start off by saying how impressed I am, that this water heater, after 10 minuets after lighting off the heater, I had hot water at the tap. After our last water heater tank cracked, we were looking to replace it with a like model. our last model was shorter by about 4 inches, so I was worried that this heater was going to be too big for our space. Although the box states a weight of 138 pounds the water heater is able to be moved very easily to get into some very tight positions, including being loaded into my VW Golf. We have now been using this water heater for about 3 weeks, and this water heater has more than earned my recommendation.

Replaced my 12 year old GE with this guy. Easy installation as I expected. I do like the status light on the front to warn of problems with the unit. I also like that it has a 12 year warranty as the life expectancy on water heaters is 8-12 years. I runs warm, I have min set to the higher side of "Low" any more an the water is just too hot.

The unit was easy to install and we were surprised how fast the unit heated the water. The water heater matches well with our current furnace. Overall, an excellent investment with an outstanding warranty.

The water tank seemed pretty straight forward to install.

So far the unit is working good. ,still early it's only been 3 weeks from installation.

I bought this water heater based entirely on the brand name "Rheem", its ratings and it's 12 year warranty. I've lived in my home for 6 years and have gone through 2 Bradford White 6 year warranty water heaters. The first on lasted me 2 years, it had been installed by the previous owner 3.5 years before. The second one was a warranty replacement that still cost me $650, this included installation and the addition of an expansion tank. This one lasted 3.5 years total. With all this said, 1) there was no way I was putting another BW heater in there 2) there was no way I wasn't going to buy a quality water heater 3) I was going to buy the highest rated and longest warranty (12years) water heater available. My Rheem Performance Platinum has only been in service for 4 days but it's quiet and produces very hot water too. BTW, the plumber that installed this Rheem water heater said he's heard nothing but good things about Rheem. He also went on to say that his company has discontinued using Bradford White water heaters because of warranty issues. That says a lot.

I purchased this water heater and when I got it home and installed it it failed to function. I checked the install guide and it was alerting me that there was a controller issue. I contacted Rheem tech support and the first call because I inadvertently turned off the gas supply to the pilot. This can be easily done by, of course, turning the knob to off. Then had to wait for the system to reinitialize. Ended call. Once system was initialized I contacted support again and when I told them what was wrong they said the particular error code was not possible. I read the support agent the label and he put me on hold after listening. He then got back on the phone and told me that the controller is defective and we'll ship the part to you in one business day and someone will contact you to get the controller installed. Fantastic. I've been without hot water since May 31st. One additional thing, when I called Home Depot they said they could exchange the defective unit but since the item was special ordered, Home Depot special ordered it for their store I hadn't done it, a replacement wouldn't be made available until the 9th of July. Unflipping believable. Word to you all - Before getting something there always ask if the item was special ordered or not before purchasing a product such as this.

Pros: Easy DIY (even for first timers) Fit my old Rheem water gas heater connections Gas Bill IS Lower Plenty of Hot Water Cons: OVERALL: Old Rheem water heater went out so I got this one. Did not want a wifi connected water heater (sooo dumb) and this one seemed to fit what I wanted from a water heater. Price, high efficiency energy use & plenty of hot water. DIY: I installed it myself. I never have installed one before but it was very easy. Just make sure to use Teflon tape for the water pipes (wrap it around the thread for no water leaks) and a good natural gas sealant ( I used Blue Monster PTFE pipe thread sealant, best stuff around for gas pipes). After I hooked it all up (reusing all my old pipes that came from the other and fit perfectly) I lit the fuse and it started after maybe the 3rd or 4th time. Make sure you get a good look in that small window. It can be hard to see for some. This took me about 2 hours to do.After getting it lit and following the instructions, we did have hot water. My one gripe is that I feel like I have to turn everything a little more to the hot side to get the same heat like I use to. Could just be me, could be that I need to adjust my dial even more than I have, but overall I like it. My old one use to scald me if I turned it all the way were as this one doesnt, might have something to do with that. Also it does seem to be saving me money compared to my old dead water heater.

Great product. Easy to install and quick setup and ignition. Raheem warranty is top notch as well. Don't call the store first, call Rheem. Heated up quickly on first fill and have had no issues with maintaining enough hot water for family of 4.

To date we have had great service from this water heater. It was easy to install.

Replaced the previous water heater before it started leaking this time, just over 10yrs old. This was a bit expensive but boy does it heat fast and had to turn down the temperature setting on the thermostat twice and it is still more that hot enough. So this means along with the higher efficiency burner I will be using less gas to heat our water. This water heater has a noticeably thicker layer of insulation and when the water is hot the outside is still cool to the touch. Notice new earthquake straps added now also. Great water heater for the money and a 12yr warranty on the tank and 3yrs on installation/labor with Home Depot contractor installing it.

Now that I have this installed , I really like it. The gas plumbing height matched up exactly to the same height as my old Home Depot GE hot water heater. Using the same Shark Bites from 9 years ago the hot and cold connectors screwed right on. An additional plus for me is this Rheem unit is not as wide as my last one. It is a little taller. I have it installed in a tight utility room and have extra clearance between the wall and the sink. The drain and high pressure valves are brass. I also like the thermostat and blue flashing light to let you know it is working. I have a family of three and run this on low. It is giving plenty of hot water. If you install it yourself like I did, be sure to get new gas connection parts as opposed to trying to use the old ones. I recommend to use your cell phone to take a picture of your current old tank setup. Then once at the store find someone working in the plumbing department, show them the picture and tell them you want new replacement gas connections. They also offer a flexible yellow gas pipe connection if you want to try that. Like I said earlier I got lucky my pipe length matched up , but I'll still install new gas pipe nipples. Also get a tube of what they call pipe dope. I'll include some pictures of my install. I'm not a plumber but a do it yourself person. I registered my new tank online and saved my purchase receipt in my file cabinet under house papers.

The first one I bought and installed had a deficient starter. After I got around that issue the indicator light notified me of a gas control issue and the water heater would not work. I exchanged this for a new one and have been very happy, if it were not for those problems I would give 5 stars. Installation is easy and the indicator lights are easy to read so you know quickly if there is a problem and what the problem is.

It's got bells and whistles - I shouldn't have to worry about much - it can self clean - easy to flush - self diagnosis - easy to light IF it goes out. Wow, have these things changed for the better. so..... Went to Home Depot - said I needed a water heater and wanted it installed - they set it all up. The guy arrived that day - sales hype etc, and you're stuck- because you have no hot water and your hair is greasy and your feet stink. So be prepared ---add 1000$ to the cost of the water heater!!! Yep one thousand!! (with the senior discount) You know, you gotta get the new fittings and the city permit and the haul away and all the good stuff to keep it up to code. Of course you need it because you are tired of smelling bad and having dirty dishes and all for a week (... that new thermocouple just didn't work on your 15 year old water heater). So... here it is in all it's glory, and he matches up with his cousins the Rheem furnace and Rheem AC. He's only 7 hours old. And I really wanted a new Gucci handbag, oh well.

Never again. I'm done with Rheem. At 2 years into my 12 year warranty, my heater started leaking. After 7 calls to Rheem (so far) and two separate visits by the plumber they still will not authorize a replacement. The plumber agrees the tank needs to be replaced, yet still each time we call they seem to have "lost" my warranty claim, continually blaming problems with a new computer system. I've just spent the last hour trying to get through to the warranty dept., getting a busy signal every time. Once you do get through be prepared to spend 30 - 45 minutes waiting to speak to someone. My plumber has the same problems. Once through be prepared for a long procedure of all the possible problems it could be - each time you call. Because because of computer problems they cannot seem to find any records of previous calls and investigations done so far. I'll continue trying to get Rheem to honor their warranty for a little longer, but I'm rapidly losing patience. Eventually I suppose I'll replace the heater on my dime, with another brand obviously. Don't bother with a Rheem. They sell faulty products, and refuse to honor the warranty you thought you were getting.

Manufacturers packing was perfect for shipment and arrived safely at my Home Depot location. Manufacturing quality was above what I expected as fit and finish were perfect.. Pipe couplings and pressure relief valve were both included so there was little else to buy. Initial operation was flawless and after 3 weeks we're very satisfied with the performance of the water heater.

So far, no problems. Looks good. The plumber had no problem installing it. You can see the glint of the flame for the gas heater but that is my only concern. The plumber said that this device has safeguards against explosions.

Installation was relatively easy; this 50 gallon unit has better insulation and is only a little taller than my old 40 gallon water heater. I was also happy with the 12 year warranty; 3 years longer than my previous unit.

Easy to install . Review based on price, features, warranty, directions and install. Only been installed a few days so we will see about the quality.

Fit into space with no problem. Hot water temperature adjustment was easy. It seems hot water is available quicker then with our older model that was replaced.

So, you stick with a Winner. Good value & excellent warantee.

Overall: What can I say, it comes with 12 yr warranty. It has small foot print, has led indicator to let you know if water heater is on and running, easy to light pilot and adjust temp for any person.

The water heater was easy to install with a few plumbing modifications using flex and shark bites. its been running for two weeks now and works great.

Everything is good except the pop off valve. It was crushed when installed. See photo.

Straightforward install. Like the electronic control with piezo lighting. No complaints so far.

I purchased and DYI installed the unit yesterday. It came undamaged compared to other reviews I have read. So a good start. It was quite heavy but a dolly made it manageable to move. I installed the Acme tank booster as part of the install. Both the tank and the booster are working perfectly. Very happy with the performance. It is very quite when operating. Pilot lighting went smoothly. It did take 3 or 4 presses of the igniter but the instructions indicated to keep pushing it every 10 seconds until it ignited. So I was not surprised. The burner fired right up. Now some install notes I highly recommend Shark Bite connector hoses they work so well. No leaks. For the gas lines I purchased new black metal pipes and sealed the threads with Blue Block pipe sealant by Hercules. Excellent product. It is a thick smooth applying product that fills the threads well. I have multiple connections and not a single leak. It is quite sticky and bonds to your hands. It would not even come off with mineral spirits. It eventually came off my hands after several washings. So if you don't mind using gloves they would be a good idea.
