Q:I used Teflon tape and pipe dope on the water connections and tightened them down all they way. Why do they still leak around the orange plastic piece?

Answer This Question
A:Â It is important that the installation instructions be followed. In this case, the fittings are supposed to be hand-tightened plus about a 1/4 turn with a wrench. Over-tightening the fitting may damage the soft washer inside the nut and allow water to leak out of the dielectric sleeve (the orange piece).

I should of gotten the sharkbite version. I had to use this too bad I couldn't return it.
I hate this kit. The compression fittings are cheap quality and I had alot of problems with them leaking. Even after tightening it with two large water pliers. It still leaks from the compression ring and nut which are cheaply made when I looked at them before using them but figured okay maybe this is how things are made these days and I needed my hot water running in my house. I regret not just bringing it back to get a refund. The SS braided water hoses are really thick and doesn't bend as much, so if you use them realize it has to basically stay straight. I just felt that the nuts were not long enough that you could easily thread them onto the water heater. Why make them so short of thread on the nuts on the water line. I had to fight fit them onto the water heater just to get them to start to catch onto the hot and cold water pipe nipples on the new Rheem water heater. If I had to do it all over again, I would go with the sharkbite kit version which was not available. Just too much frustration using this Everbuilt version, but since I opened it, I figure might as well make it fit. The only piece that worked with no problems was the gas line.

Easy to use Kit
I had to replace my water heater and they recommend to place any hoses feeding in and out the tank as the gaskets in them are old. I used the stainless steel ones no problem except the are equal length and in my situation the cold side had a shutoff so it needed to be a bit shorter. The compression gas hose works like a charm, just follow the instruction are no tape or paste is to be used on the flanged parts.

Easy installation but what’s the integrity of using these hose
Installation is easy enough and I tried to avoid any bends, this is my first time using these kind of connection and I don’t know the integrity and how long do they last before they start to deteriorate, anyone?

Both the water connections leaked, not at the threads either, but at the connection points behind the threads. I used tape, I thought maybe I overtightened the first one, but the second one leaked too. No amount of tightening corrected this.

All - Instructions say to not use putty, tape, or pipe dope. Also, it should be hand-tightened with a 1/4 turn with a wrench. Overtightening can damage the soft rubber washer in the nut. The more it is tightened, the more damage is likely to occur.
