I used 5 bags of this after preparing the ground and using wheat straw to hold moisture. It did not produce any grass. It did however dye the sound so there’s that part.

I have given a good rating based on price and maker. My soil is still frozen and wet son it has yet to be used. When it is used, it will take at least 2 weeks to know how good it is.

      Unreliable
I have worked in the horticulture field for years. Seed if shipped/stored properly should have a shelf-life to get from producer to end user without causing it to be unviable. Whomever is answering at Scott’s doesn’t address customer concerns intelligently, i.e., Fescues begin to germinate 14 days @ 50 F. Ground temperature is a factor as is ambient air temperature, but in what universe does fescue require 80 F. Temps? I could go on, but obviously profit surpasses sense at Scott’s.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Thick'r Lawn Tall Fescue Mix and appreciate your feedback.

You should start seeing germination in 6-14 days under ideal growing conditions. It will take about a month for all the seed to germinate. The amount of seed in the mix is for overseeding and will not fill in a bare area. If applied to bare area, the seedings will appear sparse. Our regular grass seed recommends 3 times the amount of seed for a new lawn compared to overseeding an existing thin lawn. Therefore this applies about 1/3 the seed that would be need for a new lawn. Soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees F for grass seed to germinate. Daytime temperatures need to consistently be above 65 degrees F. This grass seed will germinate best when temperatures are consistently in the 65-80 degree F range. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Cold weather will delay germination but will not hurt the seed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination.
Weed control used prior to seeding will prevent seed from germinating. Weed control product used on new seedlings will kill seedlings. Do not apply a weed control that is registered for lawn use to new grass until it has been cut at least 3-4 times.

I can't get the seeds to germinate. I've followed the instructions. Actually, I am going to call Scotts and ask if I'm doing something wrong. Could it be that the seeds are too old?

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Rapid Grass Tall Fescue Mix and appreciate your feedback.

Soil temperatures must be at least 55° F (+12.7° C) for grass seed to germinate. Daytime temperatures need to consistently be over 65° F (18.3° C). Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. You may have seeded too late and depending on continued temperatures grass seed may remain dormant and germinate in the Spring. Germination time is based on ideal conditions of soil warmth and a constant amount of moisture.

So far this is the only product I have bought from the Home Depot that has actually grown grass on the bare spots in my lawn. The roll out sheets with grass seed in it was a complete bust.

The product is very good, so much so, this was my second order. I used to replace grass that was killed by our dog, as it came in fairly quickly it is great, looks good so we took out the other grass and filled in the whole yard with this seed. I would recommend and I will buy again to make sure I have the same seed….front and back done…looks great, just topped & little effort. I Like That!

This stuff definitely works but it’s pricey for the square footage it covers.
