Waste of money and time
I bought this thicker lawn after installing the Scott app on my phone for my lawn care. I used all the steps as mentioned on the bag. I cut the grass on lower mower settings , dethach my lawn, used the spreader to spread as per the settings mentioned on the bag. I watered every day and keep the soil moist but i am highly disappointed with this product.

After 2 weeks of watering, I have not seen dramatic results. For the price that you’re paying, this provides average value. The product covers a ~35x35’ area. It does spread well, with a rotary spreader.Be sure to follow the directions, and rake the dead areas first. Cut your grass low (2”).

Complete disaster - ruined mine and surrounding lawns
Followed the directions to a T and used a spreader to put some of the 50% thicker Fescue product in my fescue lawn. The pics explain themselves but essentially I have deep green patches that grow 5x as fast as the surrounding lawn. It’s a mess. Looks like the wind/rain brought some it over to my surrounding neighbors whose grass is now diseased looking like mine, but not nearly as bad. So that’s awkward for me. Called Scott’s and they gave a refund with proof of purchase (don’t toss the receipt!), but my lawn is so much worse than before. Scott’s said to water it three times a day for the next few months. Scotts didn’t seem interested in paying my water bill. Besides watering will only make it worse. I’ll probably try and manually rip it up if I can. Complete disaster.

      Great product, easy to use
My husband and I ordered a bag of this stuff to replenish our front yard. We had a few years where we really didn’t take care of the yard like we should. After just two weeks we saw great results and see it continue to improve. We make sure we just water once a day. Super easy to use, safe around pets - this was a great purchase and I would definitely recommend.

          Low Quality for Scotts Products
I dethatched and aeriated before application of the Turf Builder Thick’R Lawn Sun and Shade. The temps were in the 70’s and sunny daytime/ 45-55 lows at night with normal watering in yhe morning and evening. No thickening of the yard, or new sprouts. I am dissapointed in this product, did not perform in best conditions for seeding a new yard. Scotts does have a guarantee i called on and is being taken care of at the time of the review.

The only issue I had was that the fertilizer and grass seed were a 50/50 mix. Although it say 4,000 square feet of coverage, it is thin.

This past summer's heat really took a toll on my front lawn. I first purchased Thick'RLawn 4000 sq ft package and decided to overseed my existing front lawn. I first mowed my lawn low and de-thatched my lawn and raked out removing all of the dead flat areas. I then prepared the surface and used about 2/3 of the bag. Within 7 days I began to see the shoots appear. I am now in my 3rd week since applying and my lawn has a great new look and is filling in real well with a few weeds showing that I will address later. Remember to keep the area moist! My project took about 5 hours preparing the surface and the cost of $50.00 - well spent! ps: Thick'RLawn has fertilizer built in so no need to purchase any starter fertilizer.

This product is excellent. Grass took first time and was a lavish, soft and full green covering. I have attached before and after photos The after was taken a little over a week ago, and is much fuller now I kept the seed moist and actually raked in into the soil, so birds didn't get and wasn't washed away from rain.

In May we had a lot of landscaping done and needed to re-seed a major portion of our lawn. The first section was seeded by the landscaper with economy priced seed and it filled in nicely. Since the other area was a combination of sun and shade, we thought we'd try the Scotts Thick'R Lawn 3 in 1. What a HUGE MISTAKE! There are a few sprigs of grass and the rest of our lawn is WEEDS! Not what we expected from Scotts especially since we paid over $100 to see the large area. Now we have beautiful landscaping surrounded by WEEDS!! I read other reviews with the same issue but thought Scotts would never deliver a product of such low standards...we were wrong! Don't waste your money on this!!!

We apologize for your dissatisfaction regarding Scotts Turf Builder Thick'R Lawn Sun and Shade Mix. All of our Scotts seeds are thoroughly cleaned and is 98.9% to 99.9% weed seed free. Natural soil contains thousands of seeds and when soil is disturbed, such as by rototilling, seeds that were deep in the soil may be brought to top of soil where growing conditions are better allowing them to germinate. We would be interested in speaking with you in further detail so that we can both extend to you our guarantee as well as learn more about this issue to make a more complete report to our Quality Assurance Department. Our phone number is 877-220-3089 and we ask that you please refer to your review when calling. Scotts

Like some of the other reviewers, I've been guilty of not paying any real attention to our lawn over the past several years. This year, that finally caught up with me and come spring we were left with a sad, bare, thin and moss-ridden lawn. In an effort to ensure that our property didn't become the neighborhood eyesore, I aerated the lawn using a friend's lawn cleats, scraped the moss up and removed it, and then put down two 40 pound bags and one 12 pound bag of Thick'R (property is less than half an acre) on May 28 - the "before" picture. By the 4th of July, it looked like a new lawn as you can see from the "after" picture. Even better, this was accomplished in one pass over the lawn, rather than one for fertilizer, another for seed, etc. The revitalization of the lawn has been a hit with the wife, and surprisingly the bare patches in the "after" picture which were seeded on the 4th - long after grass seed should be planted - have sprouted and are growing well into our summer season. I'm no lawn expert, but if our experience is any indication Thick'R does exactly what it promises to. One of my family members was so impressed they went out and got some for both their lawn and their daughter's lawn.

We are sorry to hear that your Scotts Turf Builder Thick'R Lawn Sun and Shade did not germinate as expected. This seed mix is a combination of bluegrass, ryegrass, and fescue. While the ryegrass and fescue should germinate in 2 weeks, it could take 28 days for the bluegrass to come up. We would be interested in speaking with you further about this so that we can learn why the product may not have worked. I was skeptical with this product but gave it a shot. I read AnsiLawn's review and looked at the photos and didn't quite believe it. Our backyard was in a complete state of disarray. Thinning lawn from a once lush, green lawn a year and a half ago. I relied to much on our gardeners who didn't do jack besides trim hedges and raked up leaves. I did a bunch of research on lawn care and I learned more names of weeds and summer larvae that I cared to know. The soil in our backyard turned acidic and the proliferation of lawn moss and weeds were apparent. Before I applied two 12 lb. bags of the Tall Fescue mix, I dethatched and raked up three 13-gallon bag fulls of lawn moss. Afterwards, I spread fast acting Lime and Moss Out! Finally, I spread the Thick'r Lawn and watered the lawn twice a day for two weeks (5 AM and 5 PM, 5 minutes). In a mere 3.5 weeks, we got our backyard back and just in time for summer! For it to work, you need to prep your yard, especially if it's malnutrition like ours. I will re-work our pathetic front yard in late summer and re-seed in fall with Thick'r Lawn. This time, with two 40 lb. bags!

This fertilizer contains grass seed to thicken the lawn. A combination of fertilizer and seed is something I’ve not used before, believing that fertilizer helps grass to spread via its roots and take over bare spots. I applied this fertilizer as directed to several bare spots, each less that 12 inches across, and the grass did thicken, though I think it might have thickened just as much with simply fertilizer, along with adequate moisture. This is good fertilizer, though I think that the seed adds little.

My lawn had quite a few thin or bares spots, and I bought a bag of this product in April to fill up the gaps and improve the lawn overall. I applied it in May multiple times and every time I racked the seeds down and soaked the area daily. However, I've not seen a single seedling coming out of the bare spots where I applied the product. Now the weather is getting hot and my lawn looks just like it was last year. The product did not do as claimed.

Very durable application. I put it down in March in some very Spring weather looking forward to seeing some results in two weeks. Well, the last snow and ice storm came the next week and now 6 weeks later this tough seed/fertilizer application came through with FLYING COLORS! Once the weather broke again and watering for two weeks I now have a full and velvet looking yard.

We do not have green thumbs. We have the slightest idea on how to grow grass— with that being said, this stuff worked! We installed fesuce sod last year that was beautiful and lush, and after the winter we were left with unsightly thin dead grass. We saw this and decided to give it a shot! We used the handheld spreader. Every day theres a noticeable difference! The pic attached shows a difference of 2 weeks in between. Love this stuff.

I had a lawn ripped up by moles a couple years ago. I didn't have much luck just overseeding with just the regular grass seed, so I decided to try this. It is definitely to be working after a couple weeks with new growth coming in. I did use a lot more of the product than the directions said to use. I also used a de-thatching machine before putting the seeds down. The type of seed included is: Wendy Jean Creeping Red Fescue, Defender Perennial Ryegrass, Silver Dollar Perennial Ryegrass, Kent Creeping Red Fescue, Avalanche Kentucky Bluegrass, Jump Start Kentucky Bluegrass The type of soil amendments are Gypsum and Sustane The fertilizer is 9% Nitrogen, 1% phosphate, 1% Potassium

For the past year, I have TRIED & FOUGHT desperately to fill in the gaps and thicken the lawn on both my front and back yard. Results-Nada. For a last result, I picked up several 40# bags of Thick'r Lawn and decided to give it a go. I first thatched and aerated the lawn. I then rolled out 3-1 using my broadcast spreader. I still have my fingers crossed, but it seems to be working.

Perfect for over-seeding in fall or spring. This large bag contains seed, fertilizer and a soil improver. It is applied with a spreader. The bag covers about 4,000 sq ft which is a great size for most lawns. I needed three of those for my lawn but you can only apply it to one area if you'd like. Before spreading, be sure to dethatch the lawn so the seeds can make their way down to the soil. I applied this in early spring and although March and April were unseasonably cool, I got some sprouts in blank areas and the lawn thickened up nice. My mix contained six different types of seeds (see picture); red/creeping fescue for shady areas and ryegrass/bluegrass for part shade/ full sun areas. A great mix of seed although I would like to have seen some tall fescue for my climate. Seed was less than a year old.

This is a 3 in 1 product. It comes with a blend of fertilizer, seed and a soil enhancer. I typically use gypsum for the soil enhancer, but this one had that in the product and more...nitrogen, phosphate, potash, calcium, sulfur. The seed used in this is Wendy Jean Creeping red fescue, Defender rye grass, Silver Solar rye grass, Kent Creeping red fescue, Avalanche Kentucky bluegrass and Jumbo Start Kentucky bluegrass. The best part is there are ZERO weeding ingredients. So if you have grass like mine that is a hodge-podge of everything under the sun, then this is your product. The seed has been treated with mefenoxam -- do NOT use near food, feed or oil purposes per the directions. It is an engineered fungicide (I had to look that up). It can be used with any style of spreader. I like it. I roughed up some of the thinner patches of grass in my front yard with a rake. I then spread the fertilizer and watered regularly. It took a few weeks to turn a solid green and show growth, but it worked!
