Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your inquiry, Handrail. The Home Depot has available in their aisles, a cut-cart that allows shoppers to cut their moulding to length needed. You may be able to use that for this Pine Wood Handrail. Please speak to a home depot Associate for more assistance.

Q:What is a purpose of little 3 grooves on the bottom running along the rail? They are unsymmetric meaning grooves on the half of the rail and the other half is plain or flat. Does it matter with which side it should be close to wall?

A:  No purpose, probably part of the milling (creation) process. When I installed handrails of this type in my rental properties, I would use a bracket at least every three feet to insure there is adequate strength wherever you grab it. Of course, check with your state and local building codes to insure you comply with them in your area.

A:  Hello Mike, thank you for your inquiry. I believe you are inquiring about small grooves along the bottom of the handrail. These markings typically identify the manufacturer, but do not affect the use of the moulding. It does not matter which side is closer to the wall when you install the railing. I hope this information helps you in the completion of your handrail project.

A:  yes if you have the proper tools/drilling jigs.

      by|Jun 17, 2019

A:  The true answer will depend on your structural and finish carpentry skills. This product is designed as a basic railing, to a basement, attic, or apartment setting. Handrails that have ballusters are larger and have greater girth so as to allow predrilled angular holes for the top of the ballusters to be inserted. Similarly, they are inserted into each stair tread. Stairs are one of the most complicated carpentry tasks, especially as stairs vary in steepness. My advice is to purchase an entire kit if possible or hire a professional. Aside from your own safety there is liability to others involved with stairs. Your other option is to build an entire balluster assembly beneath and independent of this small handrail.

      A:  At your local store

      by|Dec 11, 2018

A:  I think you basically have to walk into a store and physically see what's in stock. The website only shows it as "call store for availability" -- probably because it's in the millwork section. So their computer only shows how many linear feet they have left unsold, not how many sticks they have of what length. Probably best to go look for yourself.

A:  Hi Skip, it looks like this WM 231 1-11/16 in. x 1-1/2 in. Pine Handrail Moulding is a store exclusive item and only able to be bought in a Home Depot store. Unfortunately we do not sell it with online stock for purchase. If you are unable to see the store inventory or price it is most likely either not a stocked item in your area or no longer available for purchase from Homedepot.com. I would advise you visit or contact your local Home Depot store for pricing and availability. Please follow the steps below to localize your Homedepot.com: 1. Localize Homedepot.com using your zip code (My Store Location: Change) 2. Choose the store where you want to pick up the item (Make this my Store) We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Thank you for shopping Home Depot!

A:  They come in 14’ pieces at Home Depot.

        by|Mar 11, 2023

A:  Your local store should stock them at the 16-foot length. There is usually a saw and tape nearby for you to cut it to your length. You may also find your correct length, which was a leftover from another customer.

A:  Your local store should stock them at the 16-foot length. There is usually a saw and tape nearby for you to cut it to your length. If you use long pieces, then make sure you have adequate hardware for the entire length as needed.

A:  I found some in the store tonight at 14' length -- in the millwork section, so there was only one piece that was still that long. I found the bin was labeled 1-7/16" by 1-5/8" -- which exactly matches the specifications given at 1.4375 x 1.625" -- rather than the way this listing is labeled on the web page here (as 1-11/16 x 1-1/2) -- if that helps.
