Q:I have a maintenance free deep cycle marine battery, group 27, 80 AH. Can I use it with this Emergency battery backup system?

Answer This Question

A:  Marine battery will work system has built in charger

by|Mar 10, 2020

A:  That's not our battery but from the specs you provided it should work with your system. For that kind of battery you would want to attach the fluid sensor probe to the positive terminal when connecting it. For further information please contact our service team at 800-991-0466 option 3. We're here to help from 9-5 Monday through Friday central time.

Q:I have sump pump outside , right by basement entrance..

      Answer This Question

A:  I’m sure the pump itself can be installed outside but I wouldn’t put the battery out there not with the electronics that it has connected to it from that battery if you’re going to do that you need to figure out someway to cover that battery over or my belief is that the battery on the electronics will get ruined

      by|Nov 26, 2019

A:  I installed it inside. If you have to install outside, I would make or buy a vented waterproof box to house the battery and switch.

      by|Nov 28, 2019

A:  Yes, mine is installed outside powered by a battery and solar panel for recharging. The controls must be in a water/rain proof box. I used a 2nd plastic battery box. Works great.

        by|Dec 1, 2019

A:  I don't know. Maybe the pump. is ok but the controller is not waterproof.

A:  Yes. If you have a sump pump, flooding is possible, thus the requirement for GFCI.

                    Answer This Question

A:  With the electricity out, in a big long-lasting storm, mine will run properly run off the battery for about two+ hours. The controller tells you when the battery dies with a solid tone. The battery continuously charges all the time when the electric is on. It's a good system, just a small pump. Easy to maintain with controller. 800 Support was friendly too.

A:  This kit does not include the battery but once you purchase the battery and install it with a connection to 120 volts AC the controller will keep your battery charged for you. It will also sound an alert if there is a problem with the battery.

A:  This system has a built-in charger that will maintain the charge level in the battery. It is not recommended to use any other charging device with this system as it can cause damage to the system. For more information, please contact our customer support team at 800-991-0466, option 3. Q:I have a large heavy duty automotive battery I would like to use with this system and the instructions say "not for use with an automotive battery". I would like to know why an automotive battery can't be used or would it be OK to use an automotive battery? Also, if I use an automotive battery will it cause harm to the Watchdog system?

A:  This system requires the use of deep-cycle battery. Automotive batteries are starter-type, which will not work for very long in this application. You may get false "Battery" problem warnings, and you risk destroying or damaging the battery, as it would be used outside of its intended application. For more information, or battery recommendations, please contact our customer support team at 800-991-0466, option 3. We are available to take incomings calls from 9am - 5pm CT Monday through Friday.

A:  Automotive batteries are designed for short bursts of power, ie starting the car. They are not designed for powering for extended periods of time.

A:  I have used a regular car battery with no problems. It is recommended to use a deep cycle marine type battery for longer operation without power.

A:  Yes. Backup system is independent of the power supply. The 110v is only used to charge the battery.

A:  Yes, this product functions off of DC battery power.

A:  The pump only functions with the battery. If the battery is charged, it should function. It is only connected to a regular house outlet to recharge the battery. If the house power is on and the float is tripped the pump will still work off the battery (provided the battery is charged)

A:  Yes. You can use any 12 volt wet cell car type battery that is not a naintenance free battery. You will need to have a battery with caps that allow you to monitor the water level in the battery. I purchased a deep cycle marine battery, removed one of the caps drilled a small hole through the cap for the probe. It works great.

A:  This battery is a 12 Volt group 24, lead acid battery with 90 minutes RC @ 25 Amps. It does not require the use of a fluid sensor if you are not using our system. If this battery meets the specifications required for your system, it is perfectly fine to use.
