Sump Pumps

Question 1

What does non-clogging mean in a sump pump?

Accepted Answer

A non‑clogging sump pump helps keep water moving even when debris tries to get in the way. Designed with features like screened inlets and specially shaped impellers, these models help prevent jams from leaves, silt, or small solids in the pit. We carry pumps made to stay clear and keep performing, so your basement stays protected no matter what the weather brings.

Question 2

What are some popular brands of sump pumps?

Accepted Answer

Different brands bring their own strengths to the job, and we make it easy to find the one that fits your home best. Discover sump pumps made by industry-leading brands, including Wayne, Everbilt, and ECO FLO. No matter which brand you choose, each one is built for long-lasting protection and peace of mind.

Question 3

How do I install a sump pump?

Accepted Answer

Installing a sump pump is a project most homeowners can tackle with the right prep. Start by placing the pump in a clean, level pit, then connect the discharge pipe so water flows safely away from your home. Make sure the check valve is secure, plug the pump into a grounded outlet, and test it by adding water to the pit to confirm it kicks on. With a solid setup and a quick test run, your sump pump will be ready to help keep your basement dry.

Question 4

What's a good discharge flow for most homes?

Accepted Answer

You want a discharge flow that can move water quickly enough to stay ahead of rising groundwater during heavy rain. For most residential basements, a sump pump that delivers 2,000–3,000 gallons per hour (GPH) at a 10‑foot lift hits the sweet spot. At The Home Depot, we make it easy to choose a pump with the right power and flow, so your home stays protected, and your basement stays dry when the harsh weather hits.
