Questions and Answers for Delta 18 in. Floor Standing Drill Press with Worklight, Laser and 16-Speeds

A:  18" Laser Drill Press MODEL NUMBER: 18-900L total height is 71" and with the pulley cover opened it would be 73".

A:  I purchased mine online and they shipped it to the store. Most stores do not stock it. It is shipped to the store upon order.

A:  The 18" Laser Drill Press MODEL NUMBER: 18-900L is manufactured in China.

A:  Label says manufactured in China.  I can say it is well and made to Delta specifications. You can find power tools that were made in the US. There are a lot of used power tools that have stood the test of time and can still be had. I have had no issues with my 18-900L drill press.  

A:  Its a heavy item, I do not know the exact weight. When I assembled my drill press and attached the recommended wooden feet, it took myself and 2 helpers to upright the unit. Now I am 69 and not a weakling but this big unit is definitely heavy and awkward until you have it completely assembled. It really works great when you have it finished and in place.

A:  18" Laser Drill Press MODEL NUMBER: 18-900L weights 261 lbs. The head doesn't come detached, so weight isn't available. However, we do highly recommend at lease two people lifting and controlling the movement when assembling/moving. In addition, we don't recommend a base for the drill press because it can be top heavy and unsafe when moving/repositioning. Always practice SAFETY FIRST.

A:  It runs on 110-120 out of the box. I don't know if it can be wired for 220.

A:  Comes wired for 120v. Would have to contact the manufacturer to see if it could be rewired to run on 220/230v

A:  The 18" Laser Drill Press MODEL NUMBER: 18-900L machine is wired for 120 volt, 60 HZ alternating current.

A:  Typically the drill press designation refers to the swing distance or the measurement from chuck center to the outer surface of the post. Thus you can safely drill a hole under 18 inches from the edge of your object.

A:  It is 9" from the center of the chuck (bit) to the column so you can center drill a piece 18" in width or diameter. Two laser lines can be adjusted to cross to identify the center of the bit. I don't use the lasers because they would only remain accurate if you never moved the table. Even with the lasers you still have to mark the work where you want to drill so just align the work to the drill point. Twist drills do not have a sharp point so I often use a brad point bill to align the work, clamp the work in place, then switch to the twist drill for the actual drilling.

A:  I believe 18” is the swing travel of the head side to side. I have this DP it is quite well made a pleasure to use.

A:  Excellent question. According to "The Practical Machinist" The measurement is simply the distance from the center of the spindle to edge of the column, then doubled. So if you measure 7.5 inches, you have a 15 inch drill press. This is referred to as the swing of the drill press which is the largest diameter piece this drill can handle. The "Swing" dimension is not given in the specifications from the manufacturer. However, one would assume that the largest diameter part that can be drilled would be 9". The only con I have with this machine is that the length of the light cable is about 4" too short. I have added a secondary light for drilling deep holes.
