Product Details

This high-performance metalworking drill press from Jet will dramatically expand your tool arsenal without taking up much floor space in the shop. This 9-Amp, 16-speed device produces 200-3630 RPM simply unlatch the spindle box and adjust according to your intended application. A quick-set bolt will precisely stop the quill at a predetermined depth while a 3/4 HP motor keeps the machine churning. The 5/8 in. chuck accommodates an assortment of bits and attachments (sold separately) for other uses, including mortising, shaping, plating, rounding or sanding.

        A:  Yeah, I guess it depends on how you're going to use it. The base is fairly heavy, and for light use it should be fine just standing there. Obviously it would be more stable if bolted down and the user should properly support materials to prevent tipping. That said, however, I plan on bolting mine to the floor for just that reason. The unit is shorter than I imagined it would be. It's 63.5" from base to top of the unit, and the table is 11.5" x 11.5" so bolting it down will result in a more solid unit for sure.

          A:  All floor standing drill presses must be bolted to the floor for safety. 90% of their weight is at the top and they are very heavy. Failure to properly secure them is sure to result in injury to the operator or to someone standing nearby

            A:  If it were me I would bolt it down. It is top heavy and just the head weights 150 lbs.

I'm doubtful it affects the functionality, worse case cutting fluid will run out on the floor. I contacted Jet, and they referred me back to Home Depot. Home Depot has been extremely unhelpful and not following up.
