A:  as is the only way to secure it is on the side.

A:  Naomi, Unfortunately could not be done with a standard stock window bar unit. We do offer a custom built window bars. If you could furnish detailed drawing of your required window bar sizing and with bracket locations. Would require that you visit your local Home Depot to process your request. A:  Floyd, Not recommended. Quick release unit performs better with single unit widow bars. Thank You, Grisham Bros

A:  Sir... You would have to add hinges to one side and a through-the-wall latch mechanism on the other side that can only be opened from the inside. I would think this would be more work and as costly as purchasing a purposeful bar guard that is already manufactured with that feature. I'm unsure of where they can be purchases but try a search on the HD site.

A:  Maybe. What's the height of the window? The attachment bars clamps only extend out about 4". If the height of the window exceeds 36 inches, I would say no.

          by|Feb 4, 2019

A:  Yes this can be installed in the upright or horizontal position as long as the window/door you are putting this on is 54 inch wide.

A:  No, definitly not. They are screwed in from the outside. They would be very hard to unscrew from the outside and impossible to remove from the inside. There are some others available for quick release. These will not do. They are fixed security bars.

                  by|May 6, 2023

A:  Yes, the kit is sold separately from the bars, the kit is available and you can install, its a quick pull release kit that allows the window guard to drop in case on emergencies.

A:  Not sure what you mean by connector pins, but if you mean the brackets that connect them to house, yes, but you need to make sure you buy the ones that have the correct brackets because there are different sizes depending on how you want to connect them to your house.

A:  They must be ordered separately, and are usually SUGGESTED by the computer as you place your order. There are two types available, a "flush" mount and mounts that place the guards about 3 inches away. The 3" mounts make it much easier to clean the glass. HTH's

A:  I just "miked" the metal at the spear-end where it has been flattened, and shows 3/32nds inch (one-half the total thickness there). The steel has been nicely formed and welded into 1/2 inch square bars, and seems sturdy enough to hold up against some force - but certainly not 'bank-vault' strength. Mine is installed over a garage window to discourage intruders.

A:  i do not know what gauge steel, but I will share my observations. the strength is provided by welds at every juncture of metal. and the scroll work adds strength to the middle. your mounting hardware will decide how firmly it attaches to the wall. the unit is adjustable widthwise by several inches. the wider you spread the less strength as it is solid piece going into a hollow space. the unit, adequately attached, should dissuade opportunistic thievery and errant basketballs. it will not stop sawzalls, come alongs, or jaws of life. a 2x4 as a pry bar might work but it would take a bit of work and make noise.

But the frame around the window will likely not be behind the the finish material, on the lower side, like on the HORZ. Just be careful investigate the wood/brick frame around the window first. IMHO, it would look strange, you are better off getting the correct size for HORZ.

I doubt it would be as rigid, as well. but it can be done.
