Q:Will a 1-in 90-degree fitting and a 1-in transition work together as a riser? It’s a less expensive option than a regular riser plus a coupler.

Answer This Question
A: It might work, but I suspect it will not meet code requirements, and might be unsafe. Risers were designed for a purpose and that's what you should use, IMHO. When working with gas, doing everything exactly right should be your top priority.

Q:What is the best way to transition from yellow poly Gas Pipe to iron pipe?

Answer This Question
A: On the Home Depot website look for "Transition pipe" it is a pre bonded piece with a molded metal to poly connection. It is the only way to do it and it worked excellent. I connected the Poly to my existing Iron pipe using a black iron union to the transition, then a Home Flex coupler to the new Poly.
by|Dec 1, 2018
A: They have a transition fitting that has a short poly pipe molded into iron pipe that works well.

Q:Hi, What is the manufacturer's recommended testing pressure and procedure?
Thank you!

Answer This Question
A: Hi Wlk. You are required to test per the requirements of your local jurisdiction. We always go by your local code. If your local code does not have a specific test, then go by the NFPA 54 National Fuel Gas Code. If this is for a test of a system in or connected to a single family dwelling, use this as a basic test. Use a pressure test gauge. Test at 15 psi for 15 minutes. If after 15 minutes, there is no detectable loss of pressure, you can consider it a pass. If you are not familiar with this testing process, you should consult with a professional who is familiar with your local plumbing codes and testing requirements.

Q:will the completed tightened joint be able to rotate? (under twisting pressure) or should it be 100% locked tight?
by|May 8, 2018

Answer This Question
A: It should not rotate with ease. You could probably could twist it hard enough to get some movement however, but not recommended.
by|May 5, 2023
A: I may turn some if twisting pressure is applied. I tried it, it turned a little. Not recommended to do that however after you’ve tighten it.
by|May 5, 2023
A: I installed 8 different joints (90’s,T’s, and union). I thought they should be tight, but all of them were able to be twisted by hand after they were tightened per the instructions. The gas company did a leak test (before connecting to gas) and everything checked out okay. It’s been 4 months since my installation and still no problems. The instructions didn’t address this issue at all.

A: Hi Greg. You will be able to twist the fitting after it is tightened properly. This should assist you in laying your poly gas pipe flat in the bottom of your trench. Avoid excessive twisting of the fitting around the poly gas pipe.
