A: This not a hard wired unit. If you place these units on an old electrical box where a hardwired unit had previously been, they sometimes will give false alarms. I had this problem and had to replace with a hardwired unit. False alarms stopped after that.

A: Mine did the same thing and I had 10 total in my home because my basement is rented out. I was told it could be dust or a small bug inside of the detector setting it off. The basement had been exterminated because a new tenant was moving in, I used a can of air spray to clean the smoke detector but it kept going off around the same time so I took them outside around 2am on night #3 and put a hammer to all 10. I went out later that morning and purchased the regular ones.

A: Hello. It usually only says Fire and THEN carbon monoxide if you press the test button. It will say this even if you press the test button while it is already going off. What is the alarm saying in a voice before you press the test button? Unplug the alarm and take it down and call us with the alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 so we can tell you more about what is going on.

A: Check your furnace. Mine was doing something similar and I found out it had to do with my furnace. It was venting down instead of out.

A: I called customer service with a really similar question! The Cust. Svc. Rep gave a little laugh and says "this is a simple fix". Just get an air hose and blow the dust off the insides of the unit". She answered so quickly I didn't think she could be making this up. Grabbed the air hose and blew it and sure enough we had an instant cure. It's just a dust buildup inside the unit. I had figured here is a unit with a 10 year warranty or at least the battery should last that long and after the first couple of years it is "done". I have had to do it a couple of times(not to the same unit but one of the four that we purchased. Hope that solves it, glad to be of some assistance.

Q:Does this detector silence button button?
by|Sep 12, 2022

Answer This Question
A: Hello. This unit has a hush feature. The HUSH feature has the capability of temporarily desensitizing the smoke alarm circuit for approximately 9 minutes. This feature is to be used only when a known alarm condition, such as smoke from cooking, activates the alarm. When the unit is in alarm, You can put your Smoke/CO Alarm in HUSH mode by pushing the test/reset button. If the smoke is not too dense, the alarm will silence immediately, the unit will verbally announce “HUSH MODE ACTIVATED”, and the green LED will flash every 2 seconds for approximately 9 minutes. This indicates that the smoke alarm is in a temporarily desensitized condition. Your Smoke/CO Alarm will automatically reset after approximately 9 minutes. When the unit returns to normal operation after being in HUSH mode, it will verbally announce “HUSH MODE CANCELLED”, and sound the alarm if smoke is still present. The HUSH feature can be used repeatedly until the air has been cleared of the condition causing the alarm. While the unit is in HUSH mode, pushing the test/reset button on the alarm will also end the HUSH period.

A: Yes, the smoke detector is not supposed to chirp low battery upon install. I would return it.

A: Hello. What activates the battery is when you put the alarm onto the bracket for the first time, the bracket is supposed to hit an internal switch which turns on the battery. Sometimes you have to put the alarm onto the bracket firmly to get it to activate the battery. Try this. Put the alarm onto the bracket without plugging in the plug. When you do, push the alarm firmly against the bracket and turn firmly.
See if that doesn’t activate the battery. Once you do, you should be able to take it off the bracket and plug it in.

A: Press and hold the center button to run a self-test. The light may not light up green until you run a check.
by|Mar 29, 2022
A: The green light should be lit up if 120 volt is there and black color wire is connected to it and also the white color wire connected to the other white neutral wires. I would take back off and check to see if wires are connected and that the wire harness is fully clipped to the detector.

A: Hello. On this alarm, the green LED is an indication of AC power. If the alarm is getting AC power, you will see a solid green light. If the alarm is just running on battery, the alarm will show a green flicker every 60 seconds. If you are only seeing the green flicker every 60 seconds then the alarm is not getting AC power and you need to investigate why.

Answer This Question
A: Hello. The alarm needs be kept at least 3 feet away from any air vent and at least 3 feet away from a kitchen or bathroom door to avoid nuisance alarms.
by|Aug 9, 2022
A: NFPA 72 (The Fire Code) recommends that they should not be installed closer than 3 feet from any supply air diffuser or return vent. If they are too close to the supply, smoke may not reach the detector.
As to question 2, yes, cooking around smoke detectors can set them off.
