Answer This Question

A:  Depending on the beep pattern, it will tell you what's up. It is probably saying that there was an alarm. Disconnect the unit from AC, and press and hold the test button for about 5 seconds, that should reset it.

A:  Hello. Take down the alarm and unplug it. Call us with this alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 so we can figure out what is going on and get this resolved.

    by|Feb 4, 2022

A:  Hello. No. Natural gas is the raw fuel you burn in certain appliances like stoves and oven like you use propane gas for fuel or coal or oil. Carbon monoxide is chemical created when you burn a fuel, any fuel, and the flame doesn't burn hot enough or completely. If the flame burns hot enough, it burns the carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide. If the flame doesn't burn hot enough, carbon monoxide is created in the exhaust and smoke and if that exhaust and smoke is vented into the house, it is an odorless and colorless gas that can't be detected but can be deadly with enough exposure at high enough amounts. You would want an explosive gas and carbon monoxide detector to detect natural gas.

A:  It detects carbon monoxide. That’s it!

          by|Feb 7, 2022

A:  No, a carbon monoxide detector will only detect the deadly gas produced by combusting natural gas.

Q:I already have a carbon monoxide detector in our garage where our water heater is located. I believe that I should have one in our house. It is two stories open structure (20ft ceiling) with a bridge. Where should I place another carbon monoxide detector.

A:  Kitchen , basement near stairs and near furnace, and one additional on each floor of house.

A:  Place it somewhere high. CO is lighter than air and will collect in high places first. https://www.epa.gov/indoor-air-quality-iaq/where-should-i-place-carbon-monoxide-detector

                by|Feb 9, 2022

A:  Hello. Actually the garage is the wrong place for a carbon monoxide alarm. It can be damaged or corrupted by the odors in the garage as well as the temperatures and the dust and insects. If you only have one carbon monoxide alarm, it should be in or near the main bedrooms. At a minimum, industry experts recommend a CO alarm be installed on each level of the home -- ideally on any level with fuel burning appliances and outside of sleeping areas. Additional CO alarms are recommended 5-20 feet from sources of CO such as a furnace, water heater or fireplace. Alarms can alert you to a problems only after smoke or carbon monoxide reach their sensors. Choose locations free of obstructions, where the alarm will stay clean and protected from adverse environmental conditions. Do not place the unit in dead air spaces or next to a window or door.

Q:How many volts are the backup lithium batteries?

                      Answer This Question

A:  Hello. The back up battery is a sealed battery attached directly to the motherboard of the alarm and is not a replaceable battery. You can’t get to the battery without opening the alarm which will damage the alarm. Do not open the alarm. For more information please refer to the owner’s manual and data sheet found on the Kidde website. That would be all the information we can give about the battery. It is warrantied for the 10 life of the alarm. You can call us about questions about the alarm at 1-800-880-6788 but we wouldn’t be able to tell you much more about the battery.

A:  I do not know. Keep in mind the entire unit needs to be replaced at 10 years.

                        by|Jan 25, 2022

A:  Not sure exactly on the volts of the battery. It is a coin style battery that is built in and can not be replaced. At the 10 year mark of the detector the detector chirps to tell you to replace entire unit. You don't need to worry about the voltage of the battery. This unit 120 volt powereed with the battery back up if power goes out and smoke detector needs to do its job.

                            by|Apr 27, 2022

A:  Hello. What activates the battery is when you put the alarm onto the bracket for the first time, the bracket is supposed to hit an internal switch which turns on the battery. Sometime you have to put the alarm onto the bracket with a bit of force to get it to activate the battery. Try this. Put the alarm onto the bracket without plugging in the plug. When you do, push the alarm firmly against the bracket and turn firmly. See if that doesn’t activate the battery. Once you do, you should be able to take it off the bracket and plug it in. If that doesn't resolve it, call us at Kidde Safety at while you are on site with the alarms and the brackets at 1-800-880-6788 so we can figure out what is going on and how to resolve this for you.

A:  Hello. If the ceiling is flat and not sloped then the alarm can be put on the wall within a foot of the ceiling but no farther down. If the ceiling is sloped, please refer to the owner's manual as to where the alarm should be placed on the slope. Owner's manuals can be found on the Kidde website under the Products tabs.

A:  Yes. However there are some restrictions. It needs to be mounted between 4 and 12 inches from the ceiling. I recommend downloading the manual since mounting is fairly specific. It can be found here: https://www.shareddocs.com/hvac/docs/2001/Public/06/User-Guide-i12010SCO-ENG-(2550.pdf

A:  No! If it is a hard wire model it needs to be attached to line voltage house current. You can use a battery operated model.

A:  This model requires the hard wiring to work correctly. I believe there are battery only versions that you can buy and "fix to wall without wiring".
