Our hardwired alarms have to have battery backup per UL code and the ones with replaceable batteries will chirp for low battery if there is no battery in there as it can only read there is no power coming from the battery compartment. You might be happier with the P4010ACS model 21029894 which is hardwired with a built in 10 year sealed lithium battery that you never have to replace.
