A: Hello. That depends on your county and city codes. Contact your local authority requiring the smoke alarms, usually your local fire marshal's office or local fire department, to find out exactly what kind of smoke alarms you are required to have and where you are required to have them.

Q:Although the package states "Ideal for Kitchens" can the unit be put in a hallway in the middle of a small apartment?

Answer This Question
A: Hello. The packaging for this alarm does not say ideal for kitchens. The alarm with packaging that says "Ideal for Kitchens" is a different model, the P3010K-CO model 21029899. Either alarm can be used in a hallway, as long as it is not too close to an air vent or bathroom. See locations to avoid in the user guides.

Q:If your smoke detector is wired to your home’s electrical system can it still run properly without a battery? I hate batteries!!

Answer This Question
A: Hello. This alarm does not hardwire. Our hardwired alarms have to have battery backup per UL code and the ones with replaceable batteries will chirp for low battery if there is no battery in there as it can only read there is no power coming from the battery compartment. You might be happier with the P4010ACS model 21029894 which is hardwired with a built in 10 year sealed lithium battery that you never have to replace.
