Q:We had to remove the current surround plus the ceramic tile underneath. What do we need to do to prep the wall before installing the new surround? Our tub has no wall at the end of the tub. Can this be used for a front and side wall tub?

Answer This Question

A:  Go to www.mustee.com and look up the instruction manual for the product you are buying

A:  Cut out the drywall about 5 inches in from where you removed your tile. Replace with new wall board. Surface must be fairly smooth and dry. Don't skimp on glue and brace follow instructions it is a quality product.

A:  I don't see why you couldn't use it with only 2 walls. You will need to somehow finish the rear panel rough edge. I would suggest using a flooring finish strip, which is typically aluminum and in stock at most HD stores. Match the thickness of the surround to the edge strip you select.

Q:I am concened with the Liquid Nails adhesive its supplied with-not great reviews and its not carried in store or online. Has anyone put this up with the Loctite Tub and Surround? Im worried anout the adhesion on the overlap of the center panel to side panels. Kit says to apply adhesive but Loctite states it will not bond the overlap. It was suggested to lighly sand the gloss surface on the overlap to make the bond. Any tips and advice?

        Answer This Question

A:  Yes I used both and applied plenty of adhesive. The concern is not so much the overlap as the adhesion to the wall service . The overlap stuck fine and you will need to brace it for the recommended time and location that it states in the installation instructions. As stated in the instructions the seams are caulked with a good quality sealant and splurge on some caulking application tools that come in a pack by the caulking which will make it easy and the job look professional. Follow the installation directions and you can't go wrong.

A:  I used more glue than supplied around the back of surround. Then used silicone around all edges including center panel. I have purchased 2 of these. They are the best I have found. Especially for the price.

A:  Hello, I did it according to instructions and used the liquid nails it came with. It's been now a little over a year. And no problems whatsoever. The main thing is to make sure everything is even to each wall piece. If you read too many reviews you might never go for it. Everyone will have a different experience because it really depends on your attitude with putting things together. But this is just my opinion. Hope it helps.

A:  I used the liquid nails included with the kit. I wished I did not. I later learned the loctite brand was recommended.

A:  I have this. I have not experienced any problems with the supplied liquid nails. In fact I ended up buying 5 more tubes. I also used white silicone to finish it. I did not have to sand anything. I only used liquid nails and the white silicone. You will have to brace it with something against the wall while it dries, but mine gas no problems.

A:  Clean, clean, clean, if surfaces aren’t 100% clean and dry adhesion will fail.

A:  Yes I had no problem cutting in for a window in my older home, I used a power jigsaw and made proper measurements. I got it as tight.as possible around the window frame and used a barrel rasp inserted in a drill if I had to tight a spot. Use a fine blade as you don't want a lot of chipping on the.edges. applied small bead of caulk looks.great.

A:  I cut mine for a low window sill in the rear. It is made from fiberglass and acrylic, with an appropriate saw blade this is easy to cut. Plan for some sort of trim to cover the edge, since cutting perfect straight and smooth lines still leaves a little rough edge.

A:  From what I recall, the back wall width should be easily trimable to to 54", as it is overlapped by the sidewall pieces. The 27" side walls will be the issue, as the outter edges of the side walls are a finished edge so they should not be cut.

A:  Yes it can be cut to fit. The ends can be cut to 27" but they will have to be capped with some trim if you want it to look finished. The back can be cut to 54" but remember to cut equal amounts off both ends of the back or the soap dish will not be centered.

A:  Along with their product I used Loctite power grab for tub surrounds. Do not skimp on adhesive but I would not recommend getting it all over everything. Make sure the texture is sound and fairly level if not tear out and replace drywall or scrape and sand. It is easier to do the job right the first time than have to redo it. Make sure you brace it per the instructions and cut the braces before gluing. Mustee has good products and have been in business a long time but if you are not sure use the loctite. I used it on old drywall and some durarock or cement board if you prefer. I used it about 7 months ago and it has held fast. Good luck.

A:  I installed mine over one wall that was partially tiled because removing the tile there would have left an uneven surface. I only did so after ensuring that all the tiles were secure to the wall. The tiles had failed on the other walls which is why I installed the new surround. The glaze on the tiles will prevent the adhesive from bonding well so I used a grinder with a masonry wheel to scuff the glaze off the tiles. Worked great for me.

The problem would be, this is made to be on flat walls, if the old one has any molded soap holders etc, rolled edges where the pieces meet, it wont lay flat.
