A:  Good Afternoon, This product is manufactured at a reputable factory in China. Different products come from different factories all around the world, so not all Merola Tile products are from China. This tile is a PEI 4, making it “highly resistant to abrasion and suitable for heavy-duty residential and commercial kitchens, hotels, exhibition and sales rooms with some dirt conditions”. If you have any further questions, please reach out to our customer service team at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

        Answer This Question

A:  Good Afternoon, This product would be great on a kitchen floor! This product is a PEI (Porcelain Enamel Institute) 4, meaning that it “has high resistance to abrasion and is suitable for heavy-duty residential and commercial kitchens, hotels, exhibition and sales rooms with some dirt conditions”. With a proper subfloor you will have no issues with cracking. The subfloor needs to be completely level prior to installing tile. ¬¬Also, this tile is glazed, so it will not absorb water through the glaze and will help prevent staining. We recommend using a penetrating sealer http://thd.co/1rqPNi7 to help preserve the life of your installation. This can also help make cleaning easier. To wash this tile, we recommend warm soapy water. If you have any further questions, please reach out to our customer service team at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

Q:Is the white an off-white or cream, or is it a pure/cool white? Thanks!

          Answer This Question

A:  Good Afternoon, This tile is a cool white. Since color, especially white, is subjective we always encourage ordering a 4.5” x 5” color sample card to see if this tile works for your project. If you have any further questions or would like instructions for ordering samples, please reach out to our customer service team at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

Q:We are planning on putting this tile in our kitchen, and a plain white (with black boarder) in a hallway. Online, the white in the snowflake looks much whiter than the plain white (Model # FDXMHMW). Can you tell me if they are the same color of white? Thanks! Mary

            Answer This Question

A:  Hi Mary, Although these products are intended to coordinate well together, they will not match exactly. Being as these products were made at different times, these products will have whites that vary slightly. The only way to prevent the whites from being different would be to order only the snowflake tile and replace the black snowflakes with white hexes from another sheet. You can easily pop the tiles off the mesh mounting and place them into the installation with thinset. If you have any further questions, please call our customer service team at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

Q:I am buying 50 sq ft of matte white but I only want one sheet of the black to scatter sporadically. It is not available in my store so I have to order it online. How do I order just one sheet of the black? Thanks

              Answer This Question

A:  Good Afternoon, This tile is only sold as a case. Seeing as you are looking to scatter black through sporadically, you should check out our Metro Hex Matte White with Black Dot http://thd.co/1PnuzMN. This mosaic is a combination of the black and white tile. By purchasing this instead of the two different products you will have easier installation. Even though the two products are made by the same manufacturer, the size could vary slightly between both products and lead to problems while installing. If there are too many black chips in the sheet, you could swap them out with excess white from unused or cut sheets. Also, when ordering tile we always recommend buying 10% overage to account for cuts and future repairs. If you have any further questions, please reach out to our customer service team at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

A:  You cannot. Buy the case and return the rest to your local Home Depot store.

Q:Is an uncoupling underlayment (Schluter-Ditra) neccessary on a concrete (used a self-leveling product) basement floor?? Or will a hardie-backer board be sufficient?

                  Answer This Question

A:  Good Afternoon, The condition of your concrete subfloor can determine the need for these extra steps. If this subfloor has not been sealed and is not cracked or damaged, you can go right ahead with installing tile. Sealer is a bond breaker and will not allow the adhesives to properly stick to the subfloor. If this has been sealed, it is recommended to use Ditra or a mortar bed. Using backer boards on concrete is not an option. We would recommend getting in touch with a local contractor if there is still confusion or concern. If you have any further questions about our tile, please call our customer service team at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

Q:Looking to match an existing tile like this. It does not say what finish or size hex this is. Is it 3/4" hex? Is it a matte finish?

                    Answer This Question

A:  It say right there in the title that it is matte. The person who said the hex was one inch forgot the grout space.

A:  1 inch hex. Glossy finish. The white is an ultra white that doesn't match standard white hex tile. Avoid.

A:  Good Afternoon, Matching new tiles with existing tiles can be very tricky. If the tile you are trying to match is the same product from a previous order, please keep in mind the dye lots may not match. If the product you are matching is not ours, it can also be very difficult to match. The size of each hexagon is .875” and they have a matte finish. We offer samples of this product and highly suggest ordering one to see how this tile matches the existing one. If you have any further questions or want instructions for ordering samples, please reach out to our customer service team at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

A:  Good Afternoon, For this size mosaic, you will want to use a 3/16 in. x 5/32 in. v-notch trowel. We always recommend Custom Building Products setting materials, and they also offer setting tools. Here is a link to this trowel on the Home Depot http://thd.co/1Qg2Zya. Answer This Question

A:  Hi Trixie, This product would be excellent on a shower floor and bathroom floor. This product meets ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Guidelines for slip resistance, giving you confidence when the floor is wet. The mid-level durability rating is great as well, being that small amounts of dirt will not scratch the surface. Plus, this product is impervious to water and has a glazed finish, so water will not affect this product if installed properly. If you have any further questions, please reach out to our customer service team at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!
