A:  Hello Donald, We suggest that you look for latex paint with an all-acrylic binder, which is inherently more weather resistant. Good plan on using a primer. If you are worried that the cap is still wet, you might try splashing a bit of wood on the cap to see if it absorbs within about 10 minutes or still is beading up. If it beads up, you need to wait a bit for it for the pressure-treating to finish drying.

A:  It is not pressure treated and it takes paint well,,

A:  The instructions say use caulking compound inside the cap then press onto post. Worked well for me. I caulked small gap between the post and cap to seal it up.

A:  Rebelremodelers, To attach each post cap style to the post, apply an exterior-grade construction adhesive to the underside of the post cap and place firmly on the post. This information can be found in the Installation section within the Info & Guides box part-way down the page on the right. Alternatively, some people prefer to predrill and nail or screw on each side of the cap and into the wooden post.

A:  It should, I would suggest starting with a smaller pilot hole to reduce the chance of splitting the wood. Other than that I don’t think there would be a problem! Good luck!

A:  Beautifully designed PINE post caps are on my fence. The product is pressure treated to extend the life of the wood, so chemical elements in the treatment material probably caused the undesired sesult. I agree, your bannister post(s) require(s) protection from the elements. Untreated wood caps may suffice with a protective coat of polyurethane every year or two. I hope this clarifies and helps going forward..

A:  It fits down about a half an inch. But it doesn’t fit tight. I used some gorilla glue and put finishing nails on all four sides. The one I had was at the top of a railing & I wanted it to be secure enough that it wouldn’t come loose if grabbed. Very secure looks great after paint.
