Good Quality topper
Had to replace the cap of a nominal 4”x 4” post (actual post measurement was 3.5”x3.5”) at the bottom of a porch railing and found this Weathershield product at my local Home Depot. These caps are pressure treated pine and the quality of the workmanship and materials is excellent. Was a bit expensive, but I suspect this will last for many years. The cap is nice and dry, but I’m still letting it sit in the sun for a few weeks before priming and painting. Internal dimensions are 3 5/8” x 3 5/8” so it fit perfectly on a nominal 4”x4” post.

I wanted to change the French gothic tops of my 4x4 fence posts. I found the Newberry Pyramid 4x4...
I wanted to change the French gothic tops of my 4x4 fence posts. I found the Newberry Pyramid 4x4 post caps at Home Depot. I ordered them on line as my local HD did not have the quantity I needed. I cut off the old tops (28) and squared the 4x4s. I used silicone caulk to secure the post caps. Perfect!! Stained them the color of the fence. Look great.

The post caps is are excellent fit, and they were easy to install. They stained up well, too. I've had them a couple of months, and they really add to the appearance of the stairs.

I had to order these on-line so you never know what you're going to get. After using wood filler in all the cracks and sanding where necessary these are adequate for the top of my porch posts. For the price I expected better albeit nothing seems great these days.

May need multiple attempts due to warping
These are made from multiple separate pieces of wood stapled together. As such, some of these will warp significantly due to moisture, and will become unusable. About 15% of the caps in my purchase batch did warp and had to be replaced, so make sure to order extra.

Warped
Two days after install and they warped and separated despite being advertised as pressure treated. They became unusable before I could paint them.
