Q:Is dead heading required? Is cutting them back each spring required. What happens if I don?t cut them or deadhead them? I live in zone 6.

Answer This Question

A:  Hello Kevlac- Thanks for asking! Invincibelle Wee White® Smooth Hydrangea does not require deadheading. Wee White blooms on new wood and benefits from being pruned once a year in the spring just as new growth begins to emerge. If you don't prune hydrangeas then they can eventually resemble a tangled mass of woody stems, and the flowers will become smaller and less showy. Q:Can you plant these in the Fall of the year in zone 5?

    Answer This Question

A:  Great question! When planting shrubs in the fall, it is best to get them in the ground at least 6 weeks prior to your predicted first fall frost. You can find your predicted frost dates by entering your zip code at the following link. https://www.almanac.com/gardening/frostdates/zipcode The next best time to plant is in he spring after the danger of frost has passed. Q:Can this wee white hydrangea flower take full sun?

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Rhonda1906, Thanks for reaching out, I am happy to help! And yes! You may plant the Invincibelle Wee White hydrangea in partial to full sun in northern climates and part sun (4+ hours daily) in southern climates. If you are located in a southern climate, I recommend planting this shrub in a location with morning sun and afternoon shade for maximum health and growth. These hydrangeas will thrive within hardiness zones 3-8 and reach 1-2.5 feet tall and wide at maturity. Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant food in spring and mid-summer. Cut the whole plant back by about one-third of its total height each spring, just as the new growth begins to appear on the stems. Please let me know if you have any other questions! Best Regards, Sarah

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi Kats, Thanks for reaching out today! I am happy to help! We offer hydrangea options that thrive in full to partial sun, but none within full shade. The Invincibelle Wee White hydrangea can be planted in partial to full sun(4+ hours per day). As long as this shrub receives sun for part of the day for at least 4 hours, and is planted within hardiness zones 3-8, this will thrive. Invincibelle Wee White blooms emerge soft, blush pink before changing to white. Blooms are held up on a strong, supportive stem for a display that looks more like a bouquet than a landscape plant. Blooming begins in early summer and continues through frost, with new flowers appearing the whole time. We do offer a few other hydrangea options that have white blooms, but the blooms will change colors with age. The Invincibelle Wee White will start light pink, then transition to white. Please let me know if you have any other questions! Best, Sarah

          Answer This Question

A:  Good morning Laurie, The Invincibelle Wee White hydrangea thrives best in full sun in northern climates and partial sun (4+ hours) in southern climates. I would advise ensuring this is planted in an area with morning sun and afternoon shade (partial sun) in your location due to the high temperatures to ensure proper growth. Best Regards, Sarah

Q:I am ordering 1 wee white hydrangeas. I plan to put it on the end of an inground planter & will be planting creeping myrtle (vinca minor ground cover), adjacent to the hydrangea. How much space should I leave between? Will myrtle choke out mini hydrangea?

            Answer This Question

A:  Hi Pam - great question. Vinca minor, in most cases, will not choke out other plants growing in the area. They just fill in around them. That being said, I would still recommend spacing them a couple of feet apart to allow for the roots of the hydrangea to develop and not get crowded by the fast-growing vinca. Answer This Question

A:  We recommend a minimum of six hours of bright sun for all smooth hydrangeas like Invincibelle Wee White. Sun ensures the strongest stems and the most blooms. In hot climates, afternoon shade is a good idea, but some sun is still imperative for best performance. Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant food in spring and mid-summer. Cut the whole plant back by about one-third of its total height each spring, just as the new growth begins to appear on the stems. Q:I received my 12 one gallon pots. It is cold now in The Bronx, NY, should I remove them from the plastic bag until the end of March. Are they still dormant? Can the cold can kill them? What should I do? The weather is not good to start planting them

                Answer This Question

A:  Hi Vilma, Thank you for asking. Your last Spring frost date is predicted for April 5. Since you live in a cooler climate, keep the plant out of the elements by storing it inside your garage or home. Remove the plastic bag and keep its soil moist until outside temperatures rise and your area is frost-free. Then, plant, feed, and water your plant and you’ll be good to grow!
