This is a 3/8" socket adapter.
1/4" X 3/8" 1/4" is the hex shaft size and 3/8"is the square dive size. Used to drive 3/8" drive sockets.

At first I thought the same thing, then I found that there were multiple sections in the store that had adapters like these, and you have to go to the right place. Set your store and note the "Aisle" and "Bay" and you should be able to find it.
