Q:Do I need this filter for gutter cleaning? Specifically to suck up all the stagnant standing water in the gutter

Answer This Question
A: Dear Jeff,
Thanks for your inquiry. Please note that when picking up small amounts of liquid the paper filter may be left in place. When picking up large amounts of liquid we recommend that the paper filter be removed. If the filter is not removed it will become saturated and misting may appear in the exhaust. The VF7000 wet filter is recommended for high volume liquid pick-up. This filter also adds protection for your vacuum during wet pick-up by keeping water-borne debris out of the motor. Filter is available at Home Depot stores or online https://store.ridgid.com/us/en/vacuum-filters . If you have any questions, feel free to contact our customer service at 1-800-474-3443 from Monday to Friday between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central Time or email us at info@ridgidvacs.com and we'll be glad to assist you. Regards, RIDGID® Customer Support
Thanks,
RIDGID

Q:Doesn't it seem a bit deceptive to advertise this as being a Wet/Dry Vac Filter when it can't be used for anything wet?

Answer This Question
A: Hello CraigT,
Thank you for reaching out and we sincerely apologize for any confusion regarding the usage of our Wet/Dry Vac Filter.
Our paper filter, including the VF4000, is indeed designed for both wet and dry applications. For small amounts of liquid (2 - 4 inches (5 - 10 cm) of liquid in the bottom of the drum), the paper filter may be left in place. However, when dealing with larger amounts of liquid (more than 4 inches (10 cm) of liquid in the bottom of the drum), we recommend removing the filter or using the wet foam filter VF7000 to prevent saturation and misting in the exhaust. When this happens, take the filter out and let it dry before reinstalling. Note that when picking up large volumes of liquids, the liquid in the drum may reach a predetermined level and the float mechanism will rise automatically to cut-off airflow. This occurs to avoid liquids from entering the power head. When this happens, turn off the vac, unplug the power cord, and empty the drum. Before storage, the filter must be dried to avoid possible mildew and damage to the filter.
We recommend that you clean the filter and then let the filter air dry overnight. Make sure that after each cleaning, you check the filter for holes or tears. You will need to replace your filter if it has any damage. Please remember to never leave your wet /dry vac running unattended and to always use your wet/dry vac in accordance with the owner’s manual.

A: Hello ajmj,

Yes, for picking up small amounts of liquid (2 - 4 inches (5 - 10 cm) of liquid in the bottom of the drum), the HEPA filter may be left in place. When picking up larger amounts of liquid (more than 4 inches (10 cm) of liquid in the bottom of the drum) we recommend that the filter be removed or use the wet foam filter VF7000.
