Answer This Question
A: HI Robert - why don't your buckets have any handles? I'm not 100% sure what you are trying to do, but you may need to warm the rim of the bucket to make it more pliable. Using a hairdryer or dunking it it hot water may do the trick. You might get enough give to be able to be able to squeeze the end of the handle over and into the hole.

Answer This Question
A: Hi Taylor - Yes, these can be used for planting, many people use them. You might want to punch some holes in the bottom to allow for drainage. Please note that we do not consider the orange buckets to be food safe. There is a slim chance that there is reground resin in the manufacture and there is the orange coloring on which we have no data on potential leeching. You can place a Mylar bag in before the soil (again poke some holes for drainage) if that is of concern to you.

Q:How much concrete (50/60/80lbs) will a 5 gallon bucket hold?

Answer This Question
A: Hi Denise - we test at a lifting weight of 84lbs. It depends, too, on how far you are going to carrying it, or if you are keeping it stationary. If it is staying in one place, you could go heavier, but if the bucket will be moved you might want to go lighter. An 80lb bag may not fit into a bucket. The diameter of the buckets is approx 12.41 " and the height is approx 14.7". I don't know the weight or volume of concrete would be that would fit into a 5-gallon bucket. They hold approximately 1,155 cubic inches.

Answer This Question
A: Hi Lids - No, our lids are sold separately so you can choose the lid that best suits your needs. Our bucket are a standard size so any 5-gallon lid should fit. We have three types of lids: "Easy-off" (search #723222) pushes on and off much like the lids on a deli container. "Heavy Duty Lids with Gasket" (#529776) provide a tighter seal and have a tear-tab to remove. "Screw-Top Lid" (#266050) is a two part design. A ring sits permanently on the lip of the bucket and the middle section screws on and off. You should be able to find something that fits your needs on homedepot.com.

Q:Can i plant vegetables in these buckets?

Answer This Question
A: Hello MaHelen, the orange Homer buckets are not considered food-safe, however, many people use them to plant in. They are not considered food safe because of the colorant used to make them orange and that there is a slight chance they may contain recycled material. (We typically do not use recycled resin, but it isn't guaranteed.) Our buckets are BPA free. You could put a Mylar bag in the bucket before loading in the dirt. It depends on how strongly you feel on the subject.
