A: Hello Ariam - the 2-gallon bucket is not considered food-safe. Currently, the only food safe bucket we have at Home Depot (search Item# 300197644) which is a 5-gallon white bucket. You could place food into a Mylar bag and then into the 2-gallon bucket which would provide a barrier to the plastic. Food-safe materials are typically explicitly labeled. Ours at Leaktite have a black/red/white sticker on them.
A: Hello Daniel, the plastic can break down with prolonged exposure to cold. I guess it would depend on how long the ice is in the buckets. This isn't anything we test for so it is hard to give you a definitive answer. You'd have to do some experimenting.
A: The bucket is plastic made with High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). The handle is metal.
A: Hi Tree - Yes, you can harden concrete in the bucket. I'm not sure it is large enough to be stable. The 2-gallon buckets are only about 9.5" tall. It all depends on the height and weight of your pole(s) and shade. You might want to evaluate that before assembling it.
