The system assembled over the window very nicely, seems to make a good seal. Shrinking of the material to make for a tight smooth visible surface was more effective than I imagined it could be. Double sided tape was rather difficult to use, especially the starting of removal of the second side to allow for attaching the film over the window: I started by peeling and folding the covering paper at one end of each piece separately prior to sticking the first side to each edge of the window. It was difficult to do!

3m window kit
One package covers one window, not two. Very hard to apply. Not seamless like In instructional video. Seems like it does help with keeping out cold weather though.

    Tape did not hold
Unfortunately the double sided tape did not properly adhere to the inside (non textured) painted surface of my window pane, even after cleaning the surface properly. The shrink plastic was durable and functioned properly however as the plastic was becoming more taught due to applying heat the plastic simply pulled the tape from the window pane and fell off. I attempted the process twice with two separate kits and unfortunately it did not work. Wasted money.

        Terrible...
Worst insulator kit ever. Not pre cut. Not 5 windows either. Do not buy unless you want a mess and 2 hours of your life you'll never get back.

I am satisfied. However, I wish the tape was longer in width. It's a challenge to attach it right.

          Window Film by 3M
I have been selling window film for 15 years and they all appear to reduce heating bills equally well. Customers have told me they have saved hundreds (Some people thousands!) of dollars a heating season. This is the first time I have used 3M film on my own property. What I have noticed is that the film has a clarity that appears to be better than others. The tape is superb. It also has a stretchability that reduces tearing. I put a different brand with twice as thick film on two other windows. This almost eliminates tearing and makes it much easier to install. I think 3M should increase the thickness of their product, also.

3M Clear Plastic Indoor Window Kit
What a surprise that the insulating promises of this thin (not flimsy) film would actually work so well. With a little practice you may learn to install this film by yourself. I can see that a larger window may be a little difficult to tackle alone tho. I enjoy the fact that I can still see clearly thru this product, so sunlight and security is not compromised.

Awesome energy saving product - 4 Stars!
I love this product and rate it 4 stars! I would give it a perfect 5 stars if it were stocked in the stores in my region here in Charlotte, NC. I have my own home improvement business and recommend this to all of my customers and even use it personally myself for years now. I've tried many others but will only buy this exclusively ever again. (The others have poorly made tape that doesn't stick... Thereby completely wasting your time and money) You can have it shipped to the closest Home Depot location to you free within less than a week. Each item will do an average two windows depending on the size. Figure about 45 minutes to 1 hour per window, (I take the extra time to clean inside and out first!) After that I cut the film about 1" larger than the window is on all sides (actually where the tape is going to be) Then I put the double sided tape completely around the window. Next, I begin to put the film on the tape at the very top and work my way to the bottom going from side to side. (Leave any excess film on for now - DON'T trim yet!) Using a heat gun or hair blow dryer with continuous motion, the film will shrink tight, smooth, and virtually clear. If there is any remaining extra film beyond the edge of the tape, you can cut it off with a utility knife. You will be able to notice a difference immediately and also lower energy bills. Definitely pays for itself, in fact it will cost you if you don't!

            Kit needs better tape
Bought 5 of these window insulation kits and the film itself works great at keeping drafts and air leaks at bay but the tape needs improving. We cleaned the window moldings thoroughly and applied the tape pressing it firmly several times to adhear to the surrounding molding. The tape stuck for about a week and then slowly came detached making the insulating film useless. I gave this product 3 stars because it is inexpensive and it worked great until the tape no longer ahears. 3M needs to improve the tape in this kit and it will earn a 5 star rating.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review on our window kits. We are sorry to hear the tape did not hold up as expected. We suggest cleaning the surface with rubbing alcohol or water as other household cleaners can leave a residue that can interfere with the adhesive. We do offer a satisfaction guarantee with this product and would suggest you please call our team at 1.800.537.9514 M-F 8am-5pm CT so we can assist. Thanks again!

Bad tape (same as the cheap kit anyways)
Tape was a pain to peel and didn't stick well to any smooth surface it was used on. Of course, keep in mind before buying this "3m product" that the tape inside the kit is NOT different from the other generic kit... it's the same brand and type of tape as the cheaper kit which gets about 50/50 bad reviews. If I had realized it was the same generic tape inside this kit, and not a superior 3m tape, I'd have probably just skipped buying it altogether. All surfaces had been prepped and allowed to dry but the tape just came right off on any window where I wasn't able to put it on rougher wood trim (and even those that stuck seem to be forming a tenuous seal at best). The experience might be different if you have wood trim with at least some surface texture, but a smooth enamel finish seems too much for the weak adhesive on this tape. Again though, this seems to follow about half of the reviews on the cheaper kit (which, again, includes the same tape).

I can feel the difference already!
Although I had some initial difficulty getting the tape to stick to my window frames (I think it may have been too cold at the time; I tried again later and everything was fine), once I got the hang of it, it was a dream. I bought 3 kits (1 each for 2 large windows, and a third kit that I cut in half for 2 smaller windows in the foyer). I did the 2 large windows first (rookie mistake), and although you can tell that I was a newbie by the wrinkles, the window treatments cover most of it on one window so it's not too bad. But oh the difference! I could *immediately* feel that the room was warmer (I have an older condo with fairly drafty windows that have screens only, not even storm windows). It was so nice at bedtime, and this morning getting dressed. It's normally very chilly in the morning. The second bedroom is the same window, and it, too, feels much warmer. We often keep this door closed to keep the dogs out, and it feels cold when you open the door. Not anymore! Our foyer, which is the lowest level, is always *freezing*. So cold that we don't hang our jackets there because it's miserable to put them on in the morning (there's no heat vents down here, either). My 10 year old came home from school yesterday and wondered why it was so warm in the foyer! Not something I would expect a child to notice, so that's how big the difference was. I just wish I could get one of these to seal our always drafty door, but unfortunately, we have to use this door. :) Like another reviewer, I have already noticed that the heat is not kicking on nearly as often (so annoying watching tv), and it did not drop down as much during the night (didn't even reach the programmable thermostat's lowest night level to kick it on); it was at least 4 degrees warmer this morning in the house (4 more would have kicked the heat on, and it normally does a couple of times a night). Doesn't seem like a lot, but it feels like a lot! Since we live in the South and can go several months with AC on and not able to comfortably open windows, I am considering buying these again and putting up for the summer to see what that does for our AC bill! Very satisfied customer.

3M Clear Plastic Indoor Window Kit
This kit was so easy! Not at all bulky. I had expected to be all thumbs using it, but this stuff was a breeze to use. I even did one window in the dark! You can tell I did it in the dark, but it was that easy to put up. I have already recommended this product to other women, women who do not feel they are handy around the house. Next year I'll get an earlier start on this product because I won't be fearing failure I am fairly new to doing it myself.

              The Best Window Insulation Available
I bought this, and a Frost King to insulate my windows. What a difference! This 3M is so much more of a better quality, it makes anything else a waste of money. It is thicker, the tape works perfectly especially for first timers, and I don't feel a frigid draft. With the other brand, I can actually feel the breeze coming through the film. With Frost King The tape was coming off and hard to deal with, but I made it work. A first timer or amateur might not be able to fix Trust me, pay the extra money and buy this brand!!!! It has saved me money!

              Peels paint off window frame
The product works well for keeping the cold air from coming in through older sash and pulley windows. HOWEVER, the tape peels off the paint and even pulls chunks of wood (under the paint) from the window frame when we remove the window plastic at the end of winter. I used "top of the line" paint. The paint cured for 5 months before I used the tape – it wasn't a fresh paint job. I love this product, but I am so frustrated with 3 years of damage to my windows (the paint/wood coming off gets worse each year I apply this). Next year I am replacing my old leaky storm windows so I won't have to use the window plastic anymore. This works OK on my varnished windows. There is a tape residue left over, and some varnish peeling, but not as bad as my painted windows. Each year I cover 16 window with this. It is a good product if it doesn't harm your windows, otherwise, be forewarned.

We are very sorry to hear of your experience with removing our tape after the winter season. For surfaces that need extra help we suggest using a blow-dryer to heat up and soften the tape prior to removal. This should help in eliminating any damage from happening. If adhesive residue remains we recommend a citrus based adhesive remover. Please know this product comes with a satisfaction guarantee and we have a team ready to help at 1.800.537.9514 M-F 8am-5pm CT. Thanks for reaching out, and please don't hesitate to contact us for further assistance.

              good deal
Installation was easy. So far the tape is holding up. It's keeping the room at a good temperature. Just waiting for a really cold day to see how it performs in the winter.

Re: I have tested the results
Get an infrared thermometer. Keep the door open, to allow return transfer and properly size your btu input in reference to other rooms. Then review "test results".This is a fantastic product. Have used in many homes on historic registry where window replacement is not an option. 5 stars

I have tests results, this product didn't work for me
I have a small bedroom that constantly is colder than the rest of the home. It has 2 windows, original from 1968, and the rest of the windows in the home are the same. I bought a thermal leak detector to spot leaks in all of my windows, and found that there were some air leaks, even with both storm windows in place, on these windows in the small bedroom. I've been writing down temperature readings for the past couple of months (Jan-Feb) by measuring the temperature with a temperature monitor. The after buying this indoor insulation kit, I installed them, and continued taking temperature readings. Considering this is the smallest room of my home, never used, door kept closed, I felt the heat should be retained more since the windows were now covered to prevent any air leakage of cold air. 2 weeks later, there is still no difference with the temperature differences from the tests results prior to the install. I installed the insulation kit to the T, didn't encounter any real problems worth mentioning, but just make sure you're patient and take your time doing each step, it took me approx 30 min each window. Seems like a good product, easy to install, materiel easy to work with and seems durable, I followed online videos for support, and seems like a great deal if they actually worked. I will continue to monitor, and if I see the temperature getting better in the room then I will be sure to update, otherwise this review will not be altered.

                  Doesn't stay on
The application process is very easy, however, after 2 days, it's already starting to come unpeeled. The windows were cleaned prior as well but they came down on both bedroom windows. Pretty bummed as I thought it would help with drafts.
