Customer Reviews for Stanley 7 in. Handle Swivel-Lock Retractable Utility Knife

Purchased four of these utility knives because of their ease of access for an additional change out of the blade. I’ve purchased recently, and have discovered no matter which of the four utility knives, when you retract the blade and try to open the blade. It does not work smoothly at all and it is very frustrating to have to play with it to get the knife blade to come back out. Then again when retracted and have to go through the process again and again.

I have this Knife since 1997, I use it at home, the very comfortable one for cuts, light and resistant, I had another that I used in my work, I work in remodeling and I laid down the heavy work, too bad I lost it I recommend it

I've had this knife for over 10 years and I have beat the heck out it and it is still going strong. Don't understand how others have rated this so poorly. I would by this again!

Bought three none of them would retract blade. I think Home Depot‘s inventory is bad stock Stanley replaced all three with good ones.

bought two both knifes are doing the something after placing the blades into the knife you close everything up, slide the blade back but you can't slide the blade foreword it gets stuck on something inside the knife.

Didn’t swing open easily, and I didn’t like that the thing that held it from swinging open was a plastic piece that had to be pushed back in place manually after you change the blade and swing it closed

Completely unusable after some mysterious change in slide mechanism or casting Have used the model retractable utility knife for at least 10 years. They were comfortable and easy to swap blades but in the last year or two I have had 3 or 4 that either don’t slide open or slide closed from new. . Won’t buy again

could not open there was a problem with casting had to file areas down so it would work. The blade also did not won't to move forward all the way

Had to return item. Slide was defective.

I bought one of these years ago and it has served me well. I needed another and had trouble finding one locally. I had to order it online. The blade storage is a plus and is easy to access. The handle is the right size to have good control of the knife. All in all, a great tool to have on hand when you need it.

I suppose I could have merely lit my cigarette with a $10 bill instead of buying this NON FUNCTIONAL utility knife. Stanley tools aint the quality they used to be! I plan to bring this one to the store so Yall can see for yourselves

I bought 4 knifes, one worked fine, one I was able to get working, the other 2 do not work. I guess I’ll return and try for 2 more…. I really like the design I’ve had an old one for years and it works great

Terrible tool. Broke without any real use. Blade slider won't work. Returned both (I bought 2). They definitely don't make them like they use to, and they don't care what they send out of the factory that makes these. How can you screw up a box cutter? Stanley is Not-Stanley now, won't be ordering this again.

I have used this style knife for 25 years due to the convenience of swapping out the blade. The blade sled will sometimes dig into the knife body when they are brand new. If so take it out file the tip with a fine metal file and it should stop.

The old one I have for a very long time is worn out and has given good service, wanted it's replacement for ease of use.

Blade always gets stuck all the time .. the track moves inside so it makes the track get twisted and then gets stuck tried to scrape some of the paint inside and seemed to work alittle better but still gets stuck

Terrible tool. Blade does not retract as promised. I would not recommend this tool to anyone! I wound up using a razor knife. If the blade won’t retract then might as buy and use one that is stationary.

The blade kept getting stuck and I had to glue back in the small magnet under blade holder. Been using this model knife for years. Disappointed with current quality.

Changing blades is not intuitive as mine sat on a shelf for the winter. Once I read what needed to be done, silicone lubricant loosened the blade and the swivel. It now works easily. If I hadn’t read directions though I would have thrown it away.

I bought 2 of these a long time ago. Can't recall exactly but I know I had them before 2004. TOP SHELF knives!!! One was stolen in 2013, the other in 2019. So I knew what to do for a new knife: Buy Stanly 10-989. WRONG!!! Stay away! Badly made.

It was difficult to get the case open to set the blade in there. Then, once I was able, the blade would not extend out. I would not buy this again.

Hello, I've had this knife for many years. I've used it while I worked construction, hospital maintenance, and automotive electronics work. It's long enough to be able to retrieve it from the deep pockets in a Klein tool belt, and the blade changes couldn't be easier.

Excellent knife, once I sprayed it with Wd-40 to o get it to open/close easily. Basic knife, works great. Only one I use at work. Hard to find in stores.

All 5 of the knives will not extend the blade out once the blade is retracted. I have used this specific Stanley knife for years. However, this last batch of them is nothing but junk. I would of given zero stars if I could. Quality, which all my previous Stanley knives were, are not in the new knives.

My favorite style of my box cutters. I have 3 in various locations. Highly recommended.
