        Not even close to clear!
As others have mentioned, this product is nowhere near clear. I put it on raw pine that was nearly white and it now is very yellow. It’s horrible. In the picture the table is stained and the bench isn’t to show the difference in color. Very disappointed.

Hi Whitney, thank you for writing in. I'm so sorry to hear our Premium Clear Transparent Stain didn't turn out how you expected it to. The clear color has additives within it that provide UV protection, giving off a slight yellow hue. Also, depending on what type of wood and the color of it, the stain will absorb differently and vary in appearance. Since you'll need to remove the stain, clean with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner no 63, and reapply a different color, please feel free to reach out to us directly so we can learn more about your project and assist. We look forward to hearing from you. -Michael Behr

One gallon does not equal 124 ounces!
The Home Depot website advertises this as one gallon (128 ounces). However, the can actually contains only 124 ounces. Similarly, the one quart size is only 31 ounces.

            Great
I have no idea what type of wood people are using this on, but there is nothing orange about it, it's a cedar color just as indicated. I cleaned the deck with Behr all in one wood cleaner prior to applying and this morning the dew is already beading up. This is not anything like paint as some people said, it is totally a stain, and applies as such. Great product from Behr as usual.

              horrible product
3 months after putting on this product it is chipping away in several areas. My deck was new and cleaned with Behr products. I used two coats.. drying thoroughly in between. I’m very dissppointed, I have to remove this product and redo entire deck.

Hello, thank you for your review. I’m so sorry the stain is chipping in several spots. If the chipping is isolated to only certain spots, I recommend removing any loose coating, cleaning the surface with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner, letting it dry, then touching up the affected areas. If it’s more widespread across your deck, then it’s best to fully remove the coating, clean, and reapply the stain as you mentioned. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please feel free to reach out to our Customer Care team directly for further assistance. Total Failure After Three Years
I applied this product on my new deck after waiting a while as my deck contractor recommended. The deck was prepared with Behr products as recommended. I applied two thin coats as directed by the label three years ago. One year ago I cleaned the deck and reapplied. In six months I began to see pieces peeling off. Now all horizontal surfaces are in total failure. Very disappointing. The warranty only pays for the cost of the product, with receipt. This is going to cost a lot to strip the whole deck an reapply. Do not use this product!

Difficult to apply, tacky after 72 hours, use something else.
First of all, I always use Behr products. I didn't even consider using anything else. I wish I had read the questions first. With this product you have to do entire boards, and not sections. If you do a section, and let the stain dry even a little bit in the middle of a board, you will get bad overlap marks. I've never had a stain do that, even after feathering the end of the section. Followed all directions, applied in low humidity, 80 degrees with recommended pad applicator, 24 hours between coats. Still very tacky after 72 hours. I've seen the same answer from Behr (word for word) in response to the question about remaining tacky, on the HomeDepot site and two other forums. Wash a part of the deck with soap and water, see if it helps. If it doesn't, strip the deck and start over. WHAT? I can understand having to do that if I had mis-applied it. The coverage / gallon was almost exact, so I know I didn't over-apply it. I am going to return whats left of the product to HomeDepot for a refund.

Hello Barry, thank you for your review. I’m so sorry about the overlap marks and tackiness. If the coating is still tacky after a week, cleaning the surface with soap and water may help to remove the tackiness, as you mentioned. Otherwise, you can continue to let it dry for up to a month as the additional drying time, use, and weathering will help it subside. Also, if only two coats have been applied, I recommend applying a thin third coat from one end of the board to the other end to help resolve the overlap marks. If the coating is still tacky after a month or the marks are still there, it's best to remove the coating and reapply. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Horrible Product
The product was applied as instructed. Now 7 days and 168 hours later after applying the product, my deck is sticky all over. I am very disappointed with the results. With a product as expensive as this one, it should of delivered positive results giving 100% satisfaction.

                    Hi Tee,

Thank you for reviewing Behr Premium Transparent Waterproofing Wood Finish. I'm very sorry to hear about the slow dry time, as that's not typical or what we want our customers to go through.

A small test area can be cleaned with warm soapy water (dish soap is okay) to help remove the tacky top layer. If that helps, you can proceed with cleaning the rest of the surface. In the worst-case scenario where the finish doesn't dry after a month's dry time, the surface should be stripped, cleaned, and recoated.

Customer satisfaction is very important to us and I encourage you to contact Behr directly for further assistance. We'd love to learn more about your project and find the best way to help.

                      Not clear!
I applies this product to my kid’s playset thinking it would go on like indoor poly (a milky tint and dry clear). So when I opened the can and saw a slight brownish tint, I didnt give much thought. Boy was I wrong! Now I have to sand the swingset and start over. Very disappointed.

                        Way to orange!
Really disappointed with how our deck turned out. It is way too orangey-red. Deciding whether we should try to retain with something darker or strip it and start all over again. So disheartening.

Hello Jan, thank you for your review. I’m so sorry the color turned out too orange/red on your deck. If you prefer to have a transparent finish, I recommend removing the coating, cleaning the surface with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner, and reapplying the stain in the updated color of your choice. Alternatively, you could apply a solid wood stain like our Premium Solid Color Waterproofing Stain & Sealer over the current coating. Please keep in mind this will change the opacity of the finish to a solid color look. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. I have used thus product on a wood fence with amazing results so decided to try it on a deck. Big mistake. Paint is peeling everywhere after 1 year & i will have to strip everything. Do not buy for decks if you have winters where you live.

                              peeling in sheets
We installed a new cedar deck during lock-down 2020. I sealed it with this cedar toned waterproofing finish. Only a few weeks later and it started peeling off in sheets. My cedar is ruined. Now I have to try to strip the whole thing and sand it.

If the peeling is widespread, it’d be best to remove the stain with Behr Wood Stain & Finish Stripper before recoating. If you have a moisture meter available, I also recommend checking the moisture in the wood. Anything higher than 20% can cause coating malperformance.

looks good. need to do the 2nd coat
I put this on a new section of cedar fence. The first coat made it look orangish. The second coat made quite a differnce. You can contrast in photo where half has the second coat, half does not. I also have stain on an outdoor shower and it has held up to the shower and elements for two years with no issues. Does start to fade, but looks better than if there had been no stain applied. My only issue would be the price which seems on the high side. Overall I still recommend for a fence.

                                      Hideous Ketchup
I purchased this for my brand new deck and railing made of pressure treated wood. I thought I'd get a beautiful tone, like the picture on the can, while letting the natural wood grain show through. What I got looks like I took clear sealent and mixed it with ketchup. It is hideous, and I cannot even return the can of ketchup-y gunk. Luckily I only tested a small section of my deck, or I would have ruined the whole thing. It doesn't sand off. Its stained ketchup. Gross.

Hi KristineMeow - Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that this color didn't turn out as expected. The color Redwood should match the color swatch in our Exterior Wood Stains & Finishes brochure. It's also best to apply this product in a small test area to ensure you're happy with the color and transparency before staining the whole area. To fix the finish, I recommend removing the current stain with a wood stripper or by sanding, cleaning the surface with our wood cleaner, then applying a new color. You may want to check out the color Chocolate T-129 (https://www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-PREMIUM-1-gal-T-129-Chocolate-Transparent-Waterproofing-Exterior-Wood-Finish-50001/203939918) which won't look as red. I did a lot of research to find the best stain and BEHR kept coming up as the best in terms of durability. I was skeptical because BEHR house paint is far from the best but I went with it based on reviews, price, and availability. I'm glad I went with it. The clear does indeed have a honey tone to it for UV protection but it is what I was actually looking for. I was staining two brand new decks and wanted a natural but enhanced look. I would say the stain just made it richer. I used a pad with a back brush and would do it that way again. One thing I learned is less is more with this stain. You want two THIN coats like the instructions say. You also want to be sure to wipe up any drips ASAP. if you don't they will foam up, turn hard, and look bad. When I did the back deck we had a major rainstorm just 3 hours after, it rained for a few days and the stain started to bubble up in spots. I thought it was ruined but it wasn't! it was just a thin layer that eventually washed away. I was impressed that the stain held up to that storm before it was even fully dry. I can say it is durable, water just beads off it, and I saved a lot of money doing my deck myself with pro results. note: it did feel a little sticky for about a week but then it went away.

I found the product not to be clear. It put a yellow tone on our deck. It showed all the overlapping. Dried tacky even after seven days.

                                        Hi Susanma,

Thank you for reviewing Behr Premium Transparent Waterproofing Wood Finish. Although this finish has a very small amount of tint to help with UV protection, the appearance should still be transparent and not drastically enhanced. I'm sorry if this isn't the case with your project. To help improve the tackiness, I recommend cleaning a small area with soap and water, as this can help remove the top tacky layer.

Please contact Behr's Customer Care Department for further assistance with this matter. We'd love to find a way to help.

                                        Kindest regards,

                                        Doris Behr

                                        Great but not clear!
Used on cedar porch swing which was a blonde color naturally. This is def not clear. I would say its not clear at all. Its a honey-ish color that is very pretty however. You do have to be careful putting it on because you will see brush marks and drips so go easy. I was light handed but still had marks. I had to use 2 coats which I didnt want to do but was hoping the 2nd coat would cover such spots. It didnt. Its held up well but its only been about 2 months on a covered porch. Does get a lot of use though and no wear on the seat. I really wanted something truly clear but if you look at clear water based finish products, you will find that most of them will state in the description on the website that they do allow the wood to naturally gray even though they have UV protection. Amazingly these products dont clearly state this on the can but do on their websites. Flood is an example. Im looking to try Cabela clear on my next exterior project.
