Easy to cut to size and fit the porcelain ends nicely. There is a potential of being a sturdier plastic which would have given it 5 stars. Nice nonetheless!

Perfect solution - and I figured out a way to make it fit even better!
This is a time tested solution. The replacement rod works and is easy to install.
But, the #1 complaint is the play that's left in the "bracket". The spring-loaded extension is just shorter than the depth of the bracket hole.
I had an extra piece leftover from trimming the rod to size, and cut spacers that were just shorter than the depth of the hole in the bracket. I sanded them down to leave some space for the compressed spring section. It worked perfectly! There is very little play in the rod, and my wife is happy with the results (SUCCESS!).
No pictures, but this was pretty straightforward. I guess you could even cut from the old towel bar if you need.

Brilliant design to replace original bar installed in 1972 and that one lasted this long! However...
Brilliant design to replace original bar installed in 1972 and that one lasted this long! However, the strength of the item needs to be improved since it is not very strong and if someone should touch, lean or pull a towel without realizing it, I will be needing to replace it again. But, I was so happy to find something to fit in the tiled ends! Make it stronger PLEASE!!!
