This filter was easy to install but did not solve my problem of white flakes in the ice. I'm sure it is filtering the water just fine but I was told that it would get rid of all the calcium calcium is what the white flakes are So far I install a new 40,000 grain Ge water softener and a GE Whole hose filter I can tell a big difference in the softened water. But these white flakes in the Ice just can't seem to get rid of them. I know they are completely safe but they are not pleasing to the eye I guess I will just have to buy my Ice

We are happy to hear that this filter was easy to install for you. We apologize that you thought this filter would reduce calcium, as it does not. Rather, it reduces sediment and chlorine taste & odor. If you are looking for a system that reduces calcium, we recommend installing the Glacier Bay Premium Reverse Osmosis System and connect it to your refrigerator/ice maker.

    Way Better than Manufacturer Part
More efficient, Better Price, Longer Lifespan. Triple Whammy that clearly shows the manufacturer can get lost with the factory replacement parts. 5yrs for $29.99 or pay anywhere from $15 to $39 every 6 months.

        Giving it a try
At its cost hoping it will last the suggested five years. Could be well worth it. Large size makes installation a bit more difficult.

          Good advice
My refrigerator is the original in the house, right at 28 years old. As a result, any filtration must be done outside the box. Unfortunately, the GE filters and hardware I've used for the past 28 years is no longer made. So when the old filter connection began leaking, I had to change the system. An employee at HD suggested that I install SS flex line in place of the copper line that I've used forever. He said that it would work well with the long-life filter. I was not too keen since the filter was nearly $30 whereas the former GE filters had been around $11. However, my immediate options were limited so I took his suggestion. It was good advice. The hardware was easy to install and free from leaks. Even though the filter is a larger filter than that formally used, due to the flex SS tubing, I was able to push the frig closer to the wall than I had been able to do with the old copper arrangement.

          Didn't last
We have really hard water. Even with our home filtration system this filter only lasted a year before loosing pressure. It was easy to install though.

We are sorry to hear that your filter didn't last as long as noted. If you have hard water, we recommend installing a water softener as a whole home filtration system does not soften the water, but rather reduces the sediment and in some cases chlorine taste & odor. If you would like to discuss your situation further please call our tech line at 800-247-1087.

            Long- Life: Time Will Tell
The normal GE filter I had been using was no longer available from Home DepotDepot. This was the only alternative available @ twice + the price I previously have paid. No issues @ present however will need to see how close we get to the 5 year life expectancy.

              Still snowing in St. Petersburg
Install was easy enough, but didn't work as I'd hoped. Filter didn't do anything to reduce calcium carbonate (hardness) in the water. Ice in glass still snows.

We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing cloudiness in your water. This system is not designed to reduce calcium in water but rather to reduce sediment and chlorine taste & odor. If you are looking to reduce hardness in water, we suggest installing a water softener. If you would like help troubleshooting your filter, please call our tech line at 800-247-1087.

              LONG-LIFE EXTERIOR IN-LINE REFRIGERATOR/ICE-MAKER FILTER
I always use a pre filter to add to the life of the in fridge water filter. New fridge- new filter. This one can last 6 months to 3 years depending on water usage.

Best water filter I have been used in a while...fresh water...guaranteed.
Filter is very light and easy to connect. Water taste is very good and I recommend to everyone that is looking for a good filter. If it keeps water taste fresh for 5 years fantastic but with 1 to 2 years is great for me. Great value and good product.

              leaked
The seam started to leak after 4 months. Since it was in a closet I didn't know about it til after it had done a lot of water damage. I also don't like how it connects to the water line. It is a push in fitting that doesn't have the strength of a threaded connection. The push in fitting cam leak if you don't get it aligned correctly.

              Disapointing - did not work
Based on the many good reviews on this site, I tried this long lasting (5 year) filter in hopes of saving money as a replacement for the expensive filter designed for my refrigerator that is replaced every 6 months. Installation was simple but the filter did not improve smell or taste of water. After a week of use I returned the filter and went back to 6 month filters. Very disappointed!

We are sorry to hear that your water did not improve when you installed this filter. This filter is certified to reduce chlorine taste and odor as well as sediment so if you have other contaminants in your water, they may not be reduced by this filter. The answer to overpriced refrigerator water filters
Would you rather pay $40+ per year for inside the fridge filters or only $30 per 5 years for an inline filter behind the fridge or in the sink cabinet? This is a no-brainer. The filter and connectors appear to be top quality. Installation on 1/4" OD water line is a breeze. Now whenever the fridge flashes REPLACE FILTER I just give it the raspberries.

              Better than most.
Tried some of the equivalent competitors and had to bring them back more than once because they leaked right out of the box. Installed this one in less than 10 minutes and has worked great and no leaks.

              GOOD PRODUCT
I ordered the 12" hose with the product and the install took 3 min. I purged the system into my trash can for almost 15 min (instructions recommened 10). I just had my first glass of bottled water over ice and did not feel sick. This product is a must have if you use ice and do not have a built in filter. I hot glued it to the back of the fridge for ease.

can't believe you are to flush for 15 min before installation
I did not read the "Performance Data Sheet" before installation and just installed it. I can not believe that it says to flush the filter 15 Minutes before installing...15 minutes. After 2 days, I still have trash in my ice. So I will have to go back to the store and buy parts to rig up an outside connection to accomplish.

Failed after less than a week
So I bought this jewel last week from my local home depot because they didn't have the type I normally get. It was very easy to install and ran for 4 days before developing a leak at the seam. I'm scrambling to find the receipt so I can return the item tomorrow morning. I will stick with the one piece models that I've used before.

                  Works great!
If I had tried this long ago I might not have bothered with the RO unit. Easy install (I needed a separate hose/fittings kit ~$10 but not everyone will need that - depends on your setup). I ran it into a bucket for a while to clear out any manufacturing residue just to be safe. I've seen that some manufacturers recommend this and some don't so that might have been overkill here. After install and a short purge of the fridge lines, the water coming out of my fridge spigot tastes wonderful. This is in San Jose, CA. Our water is not the worst I've seen (most Southern Cal municipal water I've tried is worse, for example) but it 's not anybody's favorite either. This is quite excellent now. I'll still use my RO unit for coffee because that unit produces water so pure it is very near to distilled water. That meas de-scaling of the coffee maker isn't needed (or at least very very frequently). I believe this filter here isn't doing much to remove minerals but I don't know that because I couldn't find specs in or on the package. For just drinking water I actually prefer to leave the minerals in. They say it'll last five years. I guess I'l just assess that by the taste of my water and ice cubes. I highly recommend. I now enjoy the water out of my fridge spigot. No longer putzing around with bottles around will save my precious kitchen cabinet and fridge space.
