Thick primer to cover paint and varnish chips

Others had chipped, varnish, etc. This primer covered up all those terrible spots to allow a smooth finish and application of paint

Goes on smoothly

Great primer

This stuff is amazing. Two coats of this and one coat of paint on even the darkest walls and you’re set. Makes painting so much easier.

Worked for what I needed. Simple enough. Figured project would need 2 coats so that was no issue. Drywall less than two years old so it was a sponge, but we knew this and prepared for the work involved. Final paint went on fine. Good for our needs.

DO NOT USE THIS VERSION OF KILZ !!!
I've used Kilz before and it was good stuff but this apparently is not it. Does not cover medium dark paint. Green, brown or lavender just ends up a lighter color of he same after being coated with this worthless substance. I honestly can't believe they put this crap in a can and labeled it Kilz. FAIL !!!

Hi KMale, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that our Kilz 2 All-Purpose Primer didn't provide the coverage expected. The Kilz 2 primer is designed to seal the surface and help reduce the amount of paint coats needed. However, it may not completely cover the previous color. Since paint has more solids than primers, it should cover the previous color once the surface has been painted. The primer should stop the previous color from showing through your topcoat. Great product!!

Used Kilz first then painted over with a pretty sky blue. Now I have a pretty she shed/garden shed that is the envy of the neighborhood. Still waiting to finish the side. But I love it!! Perfect primer and so easy to use!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought a house that was built in the 70s and it has old wood paneling. We want to paint it but needed something to keep the paneling from bleeding through our paint job. I researched what to use and this was recommended many times. We thought we would need multiple coats because of the black in the paneling but we didn’t!!! See photo with only ONE coat!! 10/10 recommend it!!

Excellent coverage - wood walls

Covers Well and Gives Peace of Mind
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought a 100 year old house recently that was covered in old, peeling, wallpaper. After ripping it all off and scraping the glue there was still some residual glue left on the walls. The Kilz went over it no problem and I haven’t had any glue trying to seep through. I used two coats since the walls were completely bare and it’s looking amazing. I can’t wait to get some paint up now. Pictures are before and during some of the glue scraping and then the final result after 2 coats of primer.

It truly is all purpose…use on all projects.

Didn’t work
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have painted and repainted some shelves a half dozen times. Each time, the knots in the wood slowly start showing. We have about a dozen knots in the shelves that the Kilz All purpose can’t conceal. But this is what was recommended by the paint specialist at the store.

While our Kilz 2 provides stain-blocking to light/medium stains, our Kilz 3 Premium will block more severe stains, like wood knots. I recommend applying a coat of Kilz 3 to your shelves before applying your topcoat of paint for full coverage.

Good Exterior Primer
Foundation needed some TLC. Prepped the surface with a power wash, crack filling, scraping and brushing. Primer spread well via brush and roller. Only needed 1 well applied coat over the old paint and exposed concrete. Primer did great overnight. Next day finish paint/sealant went on top very easy. Will be using this primer in the future.

I mudded my walls and was worried if it would cover as well as having a dark previous color wall but it did a great job. Two hands and looks great dried quickly too low oder no complaints, picked up from store paid for it and off to prime my walls that simple

Great coverage

Watered down junk horrible coverage
Literally over 4 gallons of paint to cover one ceiling and it still isn’t even white. Completely horrible coverage I could cover about literally one square foot with every roller dip and needed almost 4 coats to get one ceiling already flat paint white. Completely wasted money. Did next room with one coat of $24 ceiling white from Sherwin with slight backroll and had some left of the single gallon. Ceiling white is 4 times better than a primer??? Complete trash!!!

Primers aren't designed to provide the same coverage as paint since they require a topcoat. I recommend testing your topcoat over a small area of your ceiling to see how it covers. Oak Hutch Update

We put a coat of Kilz 20 All-Purpose Interior / Exterior on the hutch after lightly sanding the sheen . This made applying the paint very easy . We were very pleased with the final product . I would recommend Kilz Products for any job you tackle . I’m sure you will love the finished product .
