Wifi extenders can be a good solution to stretch a wifi signal between a router and an electronic device. They work best when they’re used with one or two devices that always stay in the same place. The best placement for a wifi extender is halfway between a router and an electronic device. Wifi extenders will stretch a wifi signal, but they don’t strengthen the signal. They need to be within a reasonable distance from a wifi router, about 20 feet max, in order for them to work effectively.

For homes that are 1500 square feet or under, a wifi extender can be a good solution to extend your wifi range. Ring Chime Pro is a wifi extender that was designed to work with Ring devices. For larger homes that may have a lot of electronic devices spread throughout the house, a mesh network may be a better solution than a wifi extender. When wifi signals have to travel between the floors of a house, or building materials (brick, stucco, metal) that interfere with wifi signals, a mesh network is more likely to be able to overcome wifi obstacles than a wifi extender. It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. Chime Pro is a combination wifi extender and internal doorbell that only works with Ring devices. It works best with devices that won’t be frequently moved, like a doorbell or stationary security camera. Most other wifi extenders are designed to work with one device and are unaware of other devices on the same network. Generally, a single Chime Pro can effectively improve connectivity to your Ring devices in a two to three bedroom home, or if your devices are located close together.

The ideal placement for your Chime Pro is about halfway between your wifi router and the device it’s connected to. Wifi extenders work best with devices that won’t be moved. The maximum distance between the router and the device should be under 30 feet (ideally 20-25 feet). If the distance is greater than 30 feet, you might need a different solution to resolve a weak wifi signal, like a mesh network rather than a wifi extender. A wifi router creates a single access point that broadcasts a signal. The further the signal has to go, the weaker the signal gets. A mesh network creates multiple points of access to distribute wifi signals and keeps each signal strong.
