A Note From The Home Depot
Sanju Patel from Build To Made has a DIY that inspires all! With a Diwali dining room makeover that can make your whole house feel brand new and Sanju is here to show you how.
A Year of New Beginnings
Hi, I’m Sanju, Build-to-Made Dad! As a do-it-yourselfer, I love to add function to a space. And I get this warm feeling when a room just feels bigger. But most of all, I love learning and making beautiful memories, the same way I did growing up with my family. This Diwali will be a year to remember!
Our dining room needed a little makeover for the holidays – transforming it from a playroom confiscated by our kid to a warm room where the family can gather – all thanks to our partners at The Home Depot.
Diwali is the festival of lights. Think of it as an early New Year, arriving from centuries of traditions in India. There’s a story and meaning behind everything from bold colors to textures that invite blessings.
Artisan wood crafters in India have always fascinated me. So as part of the makeover, the central focus was a daybed made from common materials such as pine lumber, Hampton Bay patio cushions, and beautiful trim found at The Home Depot. It’s a learning opportunity, but one that was worthwhile.
We learned to cut tapered legs, half-lap notches, rip down boards, use pocket holes, and finish with a simple white-wash technique using Ultra Pure White Behr paint. A little corner of our room felt slightly empty and unbalanced, so we decided to build a bookshelf inspired by arches so commonly featured in India.
Did you know that The Home Depot has a vast online home décor and lighting inventory? Pillows, throws, rugs, serving trays, side tables, candles, and LED string lights were all found through The Home Depot app.
Ordering was super easy. Our family values convenience so we can spend more time where it matters the most. In fact, when the deliveries arrived, our family made it thing – we unboxed and set up the room together - being silly and all. To top off the night, we threw a mini dance party, giving the room an opportunity to create its first happy moments.
I hope this inspires you to makeover a room. From our family to yours, we wish you happy holidays!
