Not recommended. If you feel trimming s necessary, you have the wrong flap for your pet door
My dog door is an extra extra large (XXL) when I measured the flap size it was 15 x 20 is this the right flap it doesn't give you the flap size and it says it is for an extra large door.

I have older model with 8 screws across the top of flap. New replacement flap only has 5 screws across the top. Will the new flap fit in this case? Thank you

I took a chance with one I got and it worked perfect for my dog door. You can always take it back if it does not work for you. Home Depot is good about that
The Ideal Door I have has seven screws across the top to secure the flap; this one appears to only have five. Will it align to the existing screws? My frame is older as it is the plastic Ideal product

Yes it has 5 screws across the top mine is also plastic. I would call ideal pet and ask them which one you need or if the screws will line up
I am in the same boat. Apparently, the seven screw model has been discontinued. I tried eBay, Home Depot (where I bought the door), Amazon, and petdoors.com, but did not have any luck.
