I have a stand but don't how to measure it
Measure from end to end. Or from hook to hook. The hook to hook length should be less than the overall length of the hammock so there will be room to adjust the height of the hammock by adjusting the chain(s) as the hammock will stretch when weight is applied. As a general rule, a 10 to 11 ft hammock will fit a 12ft stand. A 12.5 to 13ft hammock needs the larger stand which is usually a stand that is 15ft in length.
I purchased it as a gift, and fwd'd this question to him, and his response was " I’m pretty sure the 12’ is from tip of post to tip of post and the 11’ is from the eyelets on the ends of the hammock. "
Has anyone used the wheel kit to go with the island retreat line of hammocks?
Not sure what wheel kit you are referring to, but the Algoma Net wheel kit doesn't work with this model. It is made for the larger heavier model. This unit is only 40 pounds .
Is this collapsible, i.e. bring it inside when not using outside?
No, this is not collapsible.
yes very portable save the box ! easy to assemble/disassemble.
It is not what I'd call collapsible, but it can be taken apart very easily when not using. Takes less than 3 minutes to set up or take down. You can always leave stand outside and simply take the hammock off of the stand. The stand has a weather resistant powder coated finish so it can stay out in the elements for longer periods.
