The Elaeagnus Ebbingei is an evergreen shrub with dark green leaves with a silver-hued underside. It produces white fragrant flowers that eventually turn into an ornamental silvery berry. This Elaeagnus shrub grows well in USDA zones 7-9 and tolerates full sun to partial shade. Plant this Elaeagnus for privacy as a large hedge or screen in the landscape. When planting this shrub, dig a hole twice as wide as the pot and mix rich garden soil in with native soil. Leave the top of the root ball half an inch above the ground level when filling the hole with soil. As a lawn plant, use a slow-release granular fertilizer in the spring. It's not guaranteed to be in bloom on arrival. ---------- This item includes a 2.5 Gallon Elaeagnus Ebbingei shrub (live plant) in plastic pots with soil. The pots will be wrapped in a polybag to retain moisture and hold any soil that shakes loose in shipping. The plant will be shipped in a cardboard box that has been designed to hold the plant in place to reduce any chance of damage in transit. As soon as the plant arrives it should be unpackaged, un-bagged, and watered. --------These Elaeagnus plants ship from the Gulf Coast of Alabama. We recommend that customers outside of the southeastern United States order during the milder times of year (Spring/Fall) to prevent heat/cold stress during transit.

Elaeagnus is a hermaphroditic plant that has both male and female organs. It is pollinated by bees and insects. These shrubs are propagated via cuttings
Elaeagnus ebbingei shrubs are not typically considered harmful to humans. In fact, they are commonly grown for their ornamental value and resilience. However, it's important to note that the silver-colored foliage of these shrubs can sometimes cause skin irritation in sensitive individuals upon contact. If you have particularly sensitive skin or allergies, it's a good idea to wear gloves when handling them. Additionally, as with any plant, avoid ingesting any part of the shrub, as some plants in the Elaeagnus genus may produce fruits that are not suitable for human consumption.
When planting these Elaeagnus shrubs for a privacy screen, the ideal spacing will depend on the size and density you desire for the screen and the specific growing conditions. Typically, a spacing of 3 to 5 feet between individual Elaeagnus x ebbingei plants is recommended. This distance allows them to grow and fill in over time, creating a dense and effective privacy screen. However, you can adjust the spacing based on your preferences, with a wider spacing resulting in a less dense screen and a narrower spacing yielding a denser one. It's important to keep in mind the ultimate size of these plants and provide enough room for them to reach their full potential while still achieving the desired privacy effect. Regular pruning and maintenance will help shape and control the screen as it matures.
About 4 feet apart. We had a screen of these plants in our previous house and in about two years they are almost impenetrable.
at least 8 feet apart ... and be patient ... it takes a few years but they get there faster if they have more room ...
The recommended space between plantings is 36 inches.
Elaeagnus x ebbingei is a hybrid variety of Elaeagnus, so "elaeagnus/ebbingei combo" and "plain elaeagnus" are essentially referring to plants within the same genus. The difference lies in the specific cultivar. Elaeagnus x ebbingei (often just called 'ebbingei') is a popular choice for privacy hedges because it's dense, fast-growing, and tolerant of various conditions. Whether it's "better" than other Elaeagnus species depends on your specific needs and location. Other Elaeagnus varieties might be better suited to particular climates or soil types. Consider factors like ultimate size, growth rate, and disease resistance when choosing the right Elaeagnus for your privacy screen.
We recommend plant from spring into fall. If planting in the summer make sure to water enough to get your plants well established. This plant will reach 8-10 ft high. This plant will not do well in soggy soils. If your soil does not drain well you should amend your soil will well draining garden soil.
they will grow to 8 feet tall ... but that takes at least 5 years of good weather ... I.e., watering when young once a week, no intervening droughts, and good sunlight 6-8 hours a day ... a local golf course has planted them as barriers and backstops, and they "performed" beautifully ... and the fragrance pleases and stuns the golfers.
They grow to about 8 to 10 feet tall. Now is a good time. Don't know about wet soil.
36" approximately
This can grow to a height of 108" or 9 ft.
